The relationship window is closed
Scott and Chris were still recovering from the previous day’s relationship transfer deadline. The programme replayed the frantic closing minutes, complete with Olly Murs reporting from a “love copter”, Biffy Clyro supplying old showbiz news and 5 Seconds of Summer acting as timekeepers.
At 3pm the gong had sounded and the window shut. Anybody who had failed to complete an intended break-up was now committed until 5 January.
Jake and Janette enter the splash zone
Jake Wood and Janette Manrara reunited Strictly Come Dancing with Innuendo Bingo. Chris had spent weeks asking for Jake to appear, first while Scott remained in the competition and then throughout Jake’s continued run.
Jake’s attempt to keep water in his mouth collapsed almost immediately. Clips from cookery, sport, radio and television repeatedly caught him, and he laughed so continuously that the game became as much about his reaction as the innuendo itself.
The sight of EastEnders’ Max Branning losing control delighted Chris. Janette remained competitive, but nobody emerged dry from one of the year’s most chaotic editions.
A Gino cookbook collects rival chefs
Chris had developed a new plan for his Gino D’Acampo cookbook: collect signatures from other celebrity chefs inside it. When Jamie Oliver visited Radio 1, Chris chased him through the building and asked him to sign a rival’s book.
Jamie accepted the strange request. Chris hoped that the growing collection would eventually turn the book into a unique record, even if asking every chef to endorse Gino’s recipes remained awkward.
Gaga and the porpoises
Footage of Lady Gaga’s online followers repeatedly shouting encouragement sounded uncannily like Scott saying, “Yes, Gaga.” The resemblance became impossible for Chris to ignore.
In Real or No Real, the most unlikely fact concerned Dick Van Dyke. He really had fallen asleep on a surfboard and drifted out to sea before porpoises helped push him back towards land.
