The confessions keep coming
Radio 1’s Talk It Out week had already pushed Scott and Chris into a live-streamed round of Confessions Roulette. A day later, Chris was still dealing with what he had admitted. He had once taken £10 from Scott’s kitchen table after a night out so he could get home and buy food, then spent roughly four years feeling guilty because he never returned it.
Scott was surprisingly relaxed about the missing money. The more intriguing part of their conversation was a prompt inviting somebody to reveal something the other person did not realise they knew. Chris answered with a single word: “curtains”. Both men instantly understood it, neither would explain it, and listeners were left producing increasingly elaborate theories.
The wider Talk It Out campaign continued through Radio 1’s online Safe House, where listeners could submit worries anonymously and receive advice from doctors, counsellors and other experts. Scott noted that some people did not even want a reply; simply writing the problem down and sending it somewhere had helped.
Does everyone know Talk Dirty?
Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty” had given Chris a new theory. If somebody heard the words “talk dirty to me”, surely they would instinctively respond with the song’s distinctive instrumental hook.
Scott was unconvinced, so they started ringing people in Chris’s phone. The first calls were unpromising. One friend simply asked what was wrong with him, while another interpreted the request literally and asked what he was wearing. The breakthrough came when Chris adopted Derulo’s American delivery of the line. Kieran immediately recognised it and supplied the tune.
It was enough for Chris to claim vindication and for listeners to begin trying the same trick by text.
Rhianna Dhillon gets the full Bingo treatment
Film critic Rhianna Dhillon returned for Innuendo Bingo, wearing protective-looking goggles that proved less useful than hoped once her mascara began running. Clips came from This Morning, BBC local radio, Radio 2, MotoGP, Four Rooms, Catchphrase and The Chase, among others.
Rhianna and Chris were already experienced enough to know what was coming, but that did little to keep them dry. A farmer announcing a preference for Cox apples, Vanessa Feltz showing Alan Dedicoat “a little bit of my cha-cha-cha” and a motorcycle commentator discussing a pink helmet all did damage.
The result was a particularly messy return for Rhianna, whose attempt to protect her eyes became part of the entertainment.
Charlie Sloth and some unlikely facts
Charlie Sloth took the guest chair for Real or No Real. The round wandered from the potential length of a pencil line to fox noises and the wonderfully implausible idea of Princess Eugenie appearing at Freshers events.
By then the show had managed to combine a serious Radio 1 wellbeing campaign with an unexplained curtain confession, celebrity facts and Chris Stark repeatedly ringing people to ask them to talk dirty to him. October had started in fairly typical fashion.
