Zane Lowe introduces Swedish House Marr-fear
Listener Hayley was waiting to learn whether she had secured her first job after reaching the final eight from more than 1,300 applicants. A friend had applied for the same office role without initially telling her, giving the process an X Factor-style rivalry. Scott offered to vote for Hayley if the decision went to the public and asked her to report back when the call arrived.
Chris returned after a day off and defended himself against Beccy’s description of his illness as “Zante flu”. He had spent his recovery watching daytime television and had become particularly enthusiastic about Ben Shephard’s arcade-inspired quiz Tipping Point. He then changed into spare trousers for Innuendo Bingo, having learned that his clothes rarely survived the game.
Film critic Reanna wore oversized sunglasses to protect her make-up and faced Chris in a chaotic round featuring Joan Collins, “sticky willies”, Alexandra Burke, Home and Away, Flog It!, Gordon Behind Bars, Elaine Paige, Richard Bacon, Reggie Yates and Amanda Holden. Reanna repeatedly lost control before clips had finished, the glasses ended up in the bin and both players were soaked.
In Dear Scott, a listener suggested bronze, silver and gold nudie pens for Olympic medallists, while another reported hearing Chris’s “Balls of Disappointment” playing on a loop in a Canadian shop. Scott revealed that the song had been downloaded almost 20,000 times. He also rang Greg James’s foreign voicemail during his holiday merely to pass on an anonymous listener’s message that Greg was fit.
Scott prepared for his first Serbian rock concert by learning a song by Piloti frontman Kiki Lesendrić and became especially intrigued by the political figures he believed were connected to the band. In Oh, What’s Occurring?, the team expected an Emmerdale episode displaced to Sunday to mention the day repeatedly, but it did so only four times. A second question found Zane Lowe pronouncing Swedish House Mafia as “Swedish House Marr-fear” ten times, prompting a plan for every Radio 1 DJ to adopt it.
