Innuendo Bingo moves to lunchtime
Colleen introduced the show with a story from a childhood holiday in Thailand, when an elephant carrying her in its trunk ran away with her still in it. The animal was eventually persuaded to stop with bananas, leaving her with an experience that Scott and the team agreed was much more dramatic than the usual holiday anecdote.
The team compared their cinema habits after Scott admitted falling asleep during The Hunger Games and eating a large sweet popcorn to himself. Chris then became increasingly embarrassed when the others referred to an off-air claim about a cinema popcorn tray which he did not want revisited.
Beccy’s rap of the day took on Pitbull’s International Love, including the parts she decided were too fast or too Spanish to attempt cleanly. The running feature was already producing listener suggestions and affectionate disbelief at how much clearer certain lyrics sounded in a Somerset accent.
The bigger event was the first lunchtime Innuendo Bingo. Now streamed from the Radio 1 website as well as broadcast, it opened with the BBC Surrey book title whose initials meant “pussy-loving care”, immediately defeating Chris.
Further clips came from cookery television, New Tricks, Four in a Bed, cricket commentary and American news, with Beccy and Chris trying to keep water in their mouths while listeners watched from offices and study breaks. The move gave the feature a new regular home, even if the studio ended exactly as wet as before.
