Chris takes 24 Years at the Tap End to Faliraki
Chris opened the programme delighted that his young cousins were allowed to listen during homework club on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The team approved of the arrangement, although Scott drew the line at their attempt to petition for the new one-to-four show to be played throughout the school day.
The previous day’s dishwasher-fish discussion had proved unexpectedly persistent. A listener rang because she had been thinking about it since hearing the show, but Chris admitted he had not yet tried cooking fish in a dishwasher: it was his birthday, and he did not want to risk being ill before the following day’s secret guest.
For the penultimate 24 Years at the Tap End, Chris reached the group’s final lads’ holiday, to Faliraki. After Malia and Kavos, the friends wanted a resort with the correct atmosphere, which largely meant fewer families, less security and a hotel where they did not feel obliged to behave.
Chinese David had accidentally booked a hotel in Malia that was far too good, with excellent food, a tennis court and a team of security staff. Chris’s complaint was not that anything was wrong with it, but that it was four-star when the group needed something closer to two-star, with fewer facilities and more fellow holidaymakers.
Scott enjoyed the contrast between Chris’s claimed interest in Faliraki’s “history” and the revelation that he simply remembered episodes of Club Reps being filmed there. It was another Tap End instalment in which Chris treated poor planning and increasingly questionable standards as the natural route to a perfect holiday.
