Noel Clarke joins Scott for It’s Only Bley Friday
Scott’s final Breakfast Show before the Radio 1 Movie premiere was built around the Friday edition of It’s Only Bley, with Noel Clarke joining the programme. The show kept up the deliberately overblown mood of Scott’s movie campaign, now only two days away from its big online launch in Carlisle.
The running joke of the week was that the project had to be treated like a major Hollywood release, even though it had grown from Radio 1’s Big Weekend footage and listener submissions. Scott had spent days handing out bizarre credits, chasing publicity and collecting famous-sounding endorsements.
Noel’s appearance gave Scott another opportunity to treat the programme like a proper film set rather than a radio studio. The guest spot sat neatly alongside the movie build-up, with the broadcast continually returning to the Wednesday-night screening and the latest attempt to make it feel like an event.
The Friday feature provided the lighter structure around the promotion, letting Scott and the team lean into the silliness rather than pretending the film was a conventional release. By this point, listeners had been asked to make posters, promote it at school and find inventive ways to secure themselves a credit.
The date also marked the end of Scott’s first run of December Breakfast cover. The following programmes would take the Radio 1 Movie from an elaborate on-air joke to its actual Carlisle premiere, with Scott determined that the scale of the publicity should match the scale he had invented for it.
