Sara and Beccy follow I’m a Celebrity’s Pat Sharp drama
Sara’s second show in for Scott began with the practical downside of getting home late: she still wanted a proper dinner, made herself a prawn Rogan Josh and then had to postpone bedtime. Beccy recognised the problem, and their conversation soon became a defence of watching rubbish television while pretending not to care about it if somebody else in the room disapproved.
That led them to I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, which Sara was following with particular enthusiasm. She analysed Mark Wright’s attempts to flirt and treated the jungle romances like a small nature documentary, before moving on to Pat Sharp’s behaviour. Sara thought his treatment of other campmates had made for uncomfortable viewing, even if provoking conflict might have helped him become a candidate for a Bushtucker Trial.
Food remained a running problem. Beccy had eaten veggie sausages and mash at Radio 1 and tried to explain why she preferred not to think too closely about what was in either ordinary or vegetarian sausages. Sara imagined fields full of veggie sausages beside streams of gravy, while a listener complained that the show had mentioned food in almost every link.
The team attempted a ban on food talk, which only made it more conspicuous when Beccy admitted she was planning to eat tinned macaroni cheese that evening. Sara had also been recording voiceover work for CBBC’s The Big Performance 2, and said the children’s choir featured in it was so moving that she cried during a performance, even if she also found the children funny.
The programme was a warm, chatty cover-show edition built around small domestic confessions, the jungle and an increasingly impossible promise not to mention anything edible. Pat Sharp supplied the headline debate, but Sara and Beccy’s ordinary conversation, from late curries to sausages, gave the show its charm.
