Beccy returns from Kavos as Dionne Bromfield drops in
Scott and Beccy began the week in a fairly fragile state after their Kavos weekend. Beccy had just turned 30 and had finally done the classic 18–30-style resort holiday that she had missed when she was younger. She had arrived back with very little sleep, still wearing the wristbands, and had gone almost straight from the airport to Radio 1.
Scott was delighted that Beccy’s attempt to behave like a proper holidaymaker had become so chaotic. He described the early flight, the coach transfer and the unglamorous reality of an allocated hotel, while Beccy admitted that she had even fallen asleep in the club. The show treated it as a successful birthday challenge, despite her obvious exhaustion.
That led into a fresh list of things Beccy ought to do before turning 30. Listeners suggested ideas ranging from travelling on a space hopper to eating a cold kebab, and Scott was keen to keep setting tasks now that the Kavos trip had proved she would actually go through with them. Beccy was less convinced that the day after Kavos was the right moment for another physical challenge.
The programme was also building towards the Radio 1 Fun and Filth Cabaret in Edinburgh. Scott confirmed more guests and performers, including Dionne Bromfield, and talked up the deliberately unpredictable mix of music, comedy and oddball acts that would make up the late-night shows. The team’s excitement about Edinburgh was matched only by their awareness that it was going to be a very strange week.
Dionne’s appearance gave Scott another chance to turn the Edinburgh bill into an event in its own right. Rather than treating it as a conventional festival preview, the show made the pleasure lie in the increasingly unlikely names being added. It was a busy reset after the holiday weekend: Beccy recovering, Scott organising more birthday missions, and the whole team counting down to Edinburgh.
