A disastrous dating email offers three options

Scott opened with an attempt to correct an office rumour. Gemma, who worked upstairs, had seen a Heat magazine photograph of Scott hugging a well-dressed man near a Tube station, then connected it to her boyfriend doing handyman jobs at Scott’s house. Scott insisted nothing was happening, even though the light-switch repair had apparently taken three hours.

Natalie then sent in an email that eclipsed Scott’s own awkwardness. Her friend had been on two dates with a man who sent flowers, arranged taxis and then issued a formal three-option ultimatum. The Posh Radio 4 Man read it in full, making the hard sell sound even more extraordinary.

Option one was to become one of the man’s lovers, sharing him with other women and receiving no gifts, dinners or taxis. Option two offered the “golden treatment” of a relationship, on the condition that she gave him exclusive rights and responded whenever he got in touch. Option three was to end things, allowing him to pursue someone more deserving of his valuable time.

Scott, Beccy and Natalie were appalled, while Chris found himself making the limited case that at least the man had been clear about what he wanted. The team compared the email to an Apprentice-style task and a subscription package, with the woman apparently having reached the end of a free trial.

The show moved on to Beccy’s show-and-tell discovery: a Peppa Pig World press-day video featuring Claire from Steps, Tina O’Brien, Melanie C and Lucy Benjamin. Its real surprise was Zane Lowe enthusiastically discussing the rides with “the boys”, a contrast Beccy and Scott found impossible to resist.
