26 February 2008: Scott and Laura’s Romantic Novel ‘A Long Hot Summer’

Scott and Laura debut their romantic fiction writing project under the pen name ‘Stephanie Black’, with the team performing dramatic readings of excerpts from their novel that prove hilarious — especially when Chopper’s accents come into play.

Scott and Laura announced they’ve been writing romantic fiction together, publishing their work under the pseudonym ‘Stephanie Black’. The highlight of the show was a dramatised performance of two excerpts from their novel ‘A Long Hot Summer’, with team members bringing the steamy prose to life.

The first reading featured a wine-tasting scene heavy with innuendo and romantic tension. The script included lines like “I like hotels. They’ve got rooms” — which became a running gag throughout the segment as the team marvelled at the earnest but slightly awkward dialogue. Chopper’s delivery of the various character accents was particularly notable, adding comedic value to the dramatic readings.

A second excerpt followed, continuing the novel’s plot with similarly enthusiastic romantic content. The team riffed on the quality of the writing and the delivery, with Scott and his colleagues good-naturedly mocking their own attempts at the genre while celebrating the absurdity of lines that felt both sincere and unintentionally funny.

The whole feature was presented as entertainment rather than serious literary critique — the joke being that Scott and Laura had genuinely tried their hand at writing romance fiction, complete with all the melodrama and slightly clunky phrasing that comes with the territory.
