22 May 2007: Innuendo Bingo and Laura’s Pie Game

Scott and the team celebrate Innuendo Bingo’s expansion to BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, then Laura introduces a bizarre new game where Scott must identify which Radio 1 Big Weekend artists left behind their pies.

The show opens with news that the popular Innuendo Bingo feature has moved beyond Radio 1 to BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, which broadcasts live sport on DAB and online. This prompts discussion of cricket commentator Jonathan Agnew’s appearance on Test Match Special, where he delivered the line “Love it to wake up in the beaver this morning”—another example of the show’s running obsession with double entendres.

Scott then recounts Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Preston, where presenter Reggie Yates opened the gates and remarked on the abundance of security staff and scantily clad attendees in a suitably suggestive fashion.

Laura then unveils her new game, “A Finger in Every Pie,” complete with a theme tune based on searching for “pie” online (resulting in “Pie G-Zoo”). The premise is delightfully odd: Scott is blindfolded and must insert his finger into leftover pies found at the Big Weekend, then identify which artist the pie belonged to based purely on texture and filling.

In the first round, Scott correctly identifies Mika’s mince pie by touch alone, impressing himself. For the second round, he encounters a crusty, fishy pie and guesses Tasha Bedfellow, but the correct answer is Beth Ditto’s fish pie. The game is absurd and messy in equal measure, embodying the show’s willingness to pursue a ridiculous premise to its logical conclusion.
