Listener Jay, who’s had a difficult year after her mother’s recent death, calls in to share her experience of Scott’s random act of kindness — a surprise meeting with the Sugababes at their studio.
Jay describes the emotional impact of losing her mother to cancer over the course of several months, and how Scott’s gesture meant a great deal to her during that difficult time. Scott had arranged for Jay and her family to visit the Sugababes’ studio, where the group performed four songs exclusively for them and spent time chatting. Jay recalls being nervous but amazed by the experience of meeting them in person. The encounter was filmed, and viewers could watch the special video online at bbc.co.uk/radio1.
The show also featured a segment about unusual German pop hits, including discussion of a novelty song by singing dogs called “Labrador Max and his pack,” which was becoming huge in Germany and reportedly set to be Christmas number one there. This led to a playful conversation with caller Kate, whose German Shepherd was reacting to the dog song. Scott joked with Kate about whether German Shepherds might understand German better than English — a running gag that played on the idea that the dogs on the song were responding to German language cues.
