17 November 2006: Steve Strange Clarifies, Jay Wins Sugababes Trip

Steve Strange pays a farewell visit to clarify his sensitive nature, while Scott arranges a surprise trip to meet Sugababes for Jay, a 13-year-old grieving the recent loss of her mother to cancer.

The show opens with Steve Strange returning to address something from his recent time on the show. He wants to clarify that he doesn’t shake hands only when near someone’s nose or fringe because of his sensitivity — he genuinely cares about people’s appearance and doesn’t want to mess anyone up. It’s a touching moment as Scott and Steve acknowledge their surprising closeness, with Steve mentioning he’ll be presenting at the London Herald Academy Awards. There’s an emotional exchange with Royce, who admits to missing Steve and jokes about being overwhelmed by messages from Steve’s fans.

The main event of the show is a random act of kindness for Jay, a Year 9 student whose teacher, Miss Jackson, emailed in. Jay’s mother died from cancer just weeks earlier — her condition had deteriorated since September, and the cancer had spread to her brain. Despite her loss, Jay has remained brave and positive, continuing to attend school with a smile. Miss Jackson, moved by Jay’s strength and the support from her cousin Chloe (also in the form), wanted to do something special to show she cares.

The surprise is a phone call from Heidi Range of Sugababes, Jay’s favourite group. After the initial shock of hearing from Heidi, Scott and Danny Howard explain what’s happening. Jay and Chloe are invited to London — they’ll stay in a hotel and visit the studio to meet Sugababes, watch them perform, and possibly sing along to their songs. Miss Jackson also gets on the line to tell Jay how proud she is of her resilience. Jay’s reaction is one of pure joy and disbelief. Scott also manages to secure a potential panto role for Lloyd, the persistent 10-year-old football expert and drama enthusiast from earlier in the week, by having a mock agent call a production company.
