12 September 2006: The Hoff Plans Scott’s Funeral

David Hasselhoff rings in to help Scott plan his own funeral, complete with donated teeth, electrical preservation ideas, and a custom Elton John tribute.

Following last week’s discussion about funeral wishes, Scott reveals he’s never actually thought about his own funeral arrangements — unlike most listeners who’ve texted in with detailed plans. In a comedy bit, the Hoff calls in claiming to be organising Scott’s send-off after a tragic tanning bed accident. The conversation takes an absurdist turn as they discuss various funeral wishes: Scott’s teeth being donated to medical science (noted as particularly white and expensive), the possibility of having him stuffed and fitted with electrical components so he could move around and give a speech at his own funeral, and the idea of getting Elton John to perform a specially written version of “Candle in the Wind” dedicated to Scott Mills. The Hoff even attempts to sing a few lyrics himself, acknowledging he’ll need Elton’s professional touch to do the tribute justice. Throughout, the pair riff on the idea of making funerals fun rather than purely solemn occasions, with the Hoff suggesting Scott died at 40 (born 1966) in the fictional accident.
