Scott explores the surprisingly common practice of eating placenta after childbirth, taking calls from listeners with their own stories, before another round of the show’s signature Meal or No Meal game turns messy when Laura discovers she’s been eating dog food and actually enjoys it.
The show opens with a discussion on placenta consumption, prompted by reports that Tom Cruise had mentioned the practice. Scott takes calls from listeners, including Stephen from Sweden, whose wife prepared placenta recipes after giving birth four weeks earlier — he describes it as “delicious with onions.” Another caller shares a mortifying dinner-party story about being served placenta on crackers as an appetiser at a friend’s house three years prior, admitting they’ve been “haunted by it ever since.” The conversation touches on preparation methods and texture, with one caller noting it can be “crunchy.”
The episode then moves into Meal or No Meal, the show’s recurring game where Scott and Laura eat mystery tinned foods while blindfolded. Six tins are on offer: sweet and sour chicken, tomatoes, carrot soup, lamb curry, spaghetti bolognese, and dog food. Laura picks first and safely gets sweet and sour chicken. Scott’s turn yields carrot soup. As the game progresses and more tins are eliminated, it becomes clear that the remaining tin contains dog food — specifically chicken-flavoured dog food. Laura ends up with it, and after initially being horrified, she takes multiple mouthfuls and actually seems to quite enjoy it, much to Scott’s disbelief and amusement.
