  1. I get about whoever said it is more newsworthy about Jamie's wife co-hosting with him rather than Emil or Lauren or James or whoever because they are good presenters but not known and I agree fully on that but you should looking for what makes the best show even in the short term not who generates the most clicks. Because seeking being in the news can lead to doing some stupid things for virality, not all press is good press and Aled or whoever is head of programmes currently should already know that

  2. Its irritating because aside from Jamie the station and Aled seem to have gone off that with not keeping Danny Beard and moving Sam and Danni and effectively Jerry to a bigger slot and giving James, Swarzy, Ore, Lauren, Shanequa etc permanent slots and keeping Emil, Conor and others in the mix for cover. I was hopeful that they were sticking with finding good existent radio talent rather than just picking a name from outside of radio to attract people because they are a name whether or not they are any good at Radio. The Jamie or Danny Beard or further back Maya Jama type of Radio 1 hiring. I know it could be short term for the summer for it appears they are going back to going for influencers or tv personalities or podcasters reality tv stars instead of using the good or great radio talent either at R1 already or other new voices out there in the UK

esAt least it only seems to be a summer thing (for now). That's the only positive I can find.

The more time goes the more I'm convinced Jamie will be part of the next breakfast team post Greg. He seems to have a hold on Aled and be indulged in a way no other Radio 1 DJ is.

I hope not but at this point I think you're right. I know the comic relief challenge showed him appearing to sacrifice something and endeared him with the audience (same thing that happened with Paddy McGuinness on Radio 2, show was unpopular before doing his own extreme CiN challenge that endeared him to the audience and made him and the show more popular) and that was deliberately done and he has got better as a presenter but I still think he's being unfairly promoted over decent or even great DJs (both on R1 and otherwise) who have worked their way up through either commercial, BBC local or student radio.

This surprises me - because its often pre-recorded, I assumed Dance Morning would never need to have cover

Its not even the first time as well. Sarah, Charlie and I think somebody else all have covered a lot  for Arielle so far which means I think it is normal from now on

I have great respect for the man ...

But Bob Harris is a great choice to take over Sounds Of The 70's (and Shaun Keavney is an interesting choice to take over the Rock Show!).

Its who has covered for him most recently for both shows honestly. It is interesting because it does seem that with all the weekend/evening Radio 2  shows Shaun has covered (Liza Tarbuck, Rob Beckett, Folk, Rock) the R2 Management must like him even if 6M management obviously didn't to get rid of him

  6. Plus the fact I think they're at three national commercial multiplezes (D1, D2, Sound Digital) plus all the regional and local commercial owned ones so it's probably a situation of just filling the space because they can.

I find it amazing how they just whack out these national DAB slots left right and center for these spin off stations that seem to have a short shelf life.

Honestly same, its strange how many of these spinoff stations both Bauer and global just start every so often while keeping the vast majority of the existing ones going. Partially it's a thing where they own the multiplexes so they do what the hell they like with them. And what they seem to do is just downgrade the Bitrate so more space on the multiplexes and they audience probably doesn't notice or care the drop in sound quality

  8. Its probably not peak Zane or peak Annie or Evening session levels but its well rounded in terms of genres and styles and all the shows do what they are supposed to in playing newer or up and coming or lesser known or soon to be famous songs or artists. They're going to have problems with directing trends and being a taste maker in the tiktok streaming era but what  ain't broken. And let's be real so is Zane and he works for one of the streaming services

  9. Meanwhile the nighttime shows on  R1 are generally very good and improving . And imo have improved particularly with the schedule changes. The Jack Sian setup just works much better than the Clara Jack setup. Which is not to say that Clara was bad but Jack is better at this show than he was at his old show and than Clara was at Future Sounds. And I just enjoy Sian doing Future artists a lot more than Jack doing it, its a good decision generally

  10. And outside of daytime is night and day. Specialist stuff is basically non-existent. I know people talk up the Capital Weekender but what passes for specialist on a global station is genuinely interesting. MistaJam is good but if you don't like (relatively) mainstream dance then you're sol, because that's all capital is going to offer in terms of "specialist".

  11. I've had this too, so I've just been recording the shows to listen to later if I want to so I can skip or cut out the repetitive playlist and the irritating ads. I really like Jordan and Chris and Sian and Kemi are great too but even thought it does feel like they are trying to poach Radio 1 listeners in style as well as presenters (that ramp up intro is so similar to Greg's intro. Particularly the previous one from 2022 ish) but its still way too commercial understandably to listen regularly.

It can be enjoyable but R1, R2, 1Xtra and 6M are just as so and considerably more interesting in either content or music or presenters to me (or all three). And less annoying. Its consistency that's part of it.

Yeah its a shame the night time schedules were really cut back a few years ago. It appears not much live between 10pm-5am nowadays. I think Dan P Carter does the Rock show live though?

I listen to both Dan and Benji B most weeks and it sort of confuses me. Both  of them seem live at some points at not at others. Both of them give out emails and socials instead of text/WhatsApp number which is usually one of the main signs its a Pre record but with both of them you will get messages that seem to be commenting on what is happening live even on email but it might be the other way around where they are planning the show around it to make it feel more live even if it isn't. I would prefer if it's always live but understand why it can't be

  13. The rmc being on Friday is weird unless this is permanent. If it's permanent then it makes sense. If its because it's live lounge month then it makes even more sense. If it's neither then I don't know. But I do think we are getting an announcement for weekend 1-4pm soon. So far it's James, Joel and Ore  in the running seemingly unless it's a wildcard or a poaching. Swarzy seems like a possibility now too. Nikita could happen but I don't think it's likely because thats going to require a substantial reshuffle of the sister station whereas Swarzy is only on one day and isn't covering Nadia Jae like she was at one point so it's less impact to 1Xtra

Don’t suppose anyone managed to get any recordings of the Radio 1 at Download Festival shows this year, at the following link?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0fnfwkz/episodes/guide

I thought I had them saved a few weeks back but the files have corrupted and they’ve expired on BBC Sounds now! 😞

As I said earlier I have the Friday, Saturday and Sunday The link to those 3 programmes is here if you want them 🙂

  15. I've got the main Friday, Saturday Sunday ones but not the overnight "Guide to Download Festival" from Tuesday 11th June. I happened to have missed that one too but all the others are good and plus that one was only a 1 hour pre-recorded show   If you want any of those three lmk

A lot of talk about Vick, Jamie and Katie but it will reflect Jack moving to evenings too.

What went so wrong at Kiss for them to benefit from the changes?

Yeah it's weird that. Not that I listen but  Jordan and Perrie and Tyler West are Stil on breakfast and drive and they have both seemed popular to Kiss' target audience for the last few years so it's weird its gone down so much. Marvin Humes is on mid mornings now  but I wonder if there are more subtle changes in playlist or imaging etc that have alienated the long standing listeners and made them want to listen to something else

  17. I actually was part of the survey this time so it was interesting to see how RAJAR figures actually get collected. Also my slightly weird listening habits may have skewed it slightly lol. But I'm just one person out of many surveyed

  18. Interesting that radio listenership is going up which is against what you hear with so much stuff social media, podcasts, Spotify, Netflix competing for people's attention span. And particularly the increase in young(ish) listeners with R1 and Capital both growing. Same with 1xtra and Asian network where they have both been decreasing for a little while before this

Is it just me or does Greg never have Danny in for a pre show chat.

    RMC are always in.

Katie and Jordan used to be regulars and Arielle chats often

I had noticed that too, he also would have Dean in for a handover chat quite a bit too. though obviously not as much as RMC, Katie, Arielle or Jordan

Interesting to see Newsbeat presenters cover a show, although I think Pete Allison used to do some cover work for Radio 1 about 10 years ago?

Yeah Its understandable given Life Hacks show description being the "Radio 1 Social Action show" that they will lean towards journalists instead of just general entertainment cover presenters. That I know all of the regular presenters and several of the covers have been or are still journalists because its more needed with the sensitivity and awareness of the issues discussed. Though Sam and Danni did cover it a few times and they are much more in the catergory of general cover but for all I know one or both of them have professional/academic journalism qualifications. Its one of these things where its slightly unexpected but not a problem, given that Newsbeat is already more chatty, friendly etc than most news by a large amount

Given how bad they usually are at updating the schedule, it's telling how quick they have been here to remove any mention of him near instantly. Add in the lack of a quote from Jordan on the press release and it sounds an acrimonious departure.

the fact that from Monday (19/02) the show has been renamed to Going Home on Radio 1 instead of Going Home with Vick and Jordan I feel like says a lot. potentially about the nature of the split and that the Vick & Jamie pairing is planned to be that long
