Given how bad they usually are at updating the schedule, it's telling how quick they have been here to remove any mention of him near instantly. Add in the lack of a quote from Jordan on the press release and it sounds an acrimonious departure.

the fact that from Monday (19/02) the show has been renamed to Going Home on Radio 1 instead of Going Home with Vick and Jordan I feel like says a lot. potentially about the nature of the split and that the Vick & Jamie pairing is planned to be that long

It is I think within senior management of it’s youth station I do feel that as you hint that BBC needs to ensure it doesn’t discriminate against age but do think that in the board of management, commissioning giving the direction of programming, content, events and playlisting there needs to feel that multi-generational representation. Why I think if the station were to be too concerned with experience in certain positions at the station would be an issue.

I’d argue with the current slate of radio 1 presenters like Clara Amfo (Although out-going), Ricky, Melvin, Charlie, Greg, Matt, Mollie, Jamie all fit in the age demographic of 30-45 years Hits Radio, Kiss and Kisstory are names commercially who try to fill that gap. It depends on who specifically are you talking about in these demographics aren’t represented and how.

I will critique that if Radio 1 were more focused on not signing those who already were signed with commercial radio in senior roles or are celebrities from television e.g with Ricky, Melvin and Charlie as an example of commercial and don’t see how Jamie Leing is a pull for a younger demographic. If it realised that it can still lose some listeners numbers but if focused on deliver something that could try to music wise get ahead of new artists and the music young generations would have found on Tik-Tok but focus on just not seeing them on Tik-Tok and trying to have programmes and podcasts that can discuss things of the demographics that the station should be reaching out to. I think they don’t have to pouch content creators to present radio 1’s radio programmes but if they had people who develop tik-tok, instagram content that is successful in younger generations they should look to hire to produce digital social media content for the radio 1 social media channel and look to see how the station needs to rethink its social media strategy.

Yeah it does feel that a radio station that exists as a youth outlet is having trouble finding a purpose and identity when most young people don't and will not want to listen to radio

  3. Though it would be big for capital, they could finally actually have something to back up them being a national and not just London and South east station. Having the relatable Northern guy on their Breakfast show to make a point that its not just a London station that's been forcibly expanded by buying up other local stations. Its actually national, Vick being on it and being Northern would have helped but (most of the time) she doesn't have a noticeable Geordie accent so you wouldn't know

I think unless a it’s April the 1st, which feels international don’t do a serious PR announcement day, it could be fake but no P.R team would allow something like this to be reported on national news sources, Burnley local press … without it being true.

yeah that's what I think it has to be real unless they are really trying to mess with people. Which I think is unlikely. So assumption its that Jordan wanted to go and its either Capital Breakfast, a big job at Bauer and/or something big on TV that would require a big commitment

  5. Radiocentre object to anything like this, its their job to do this. But Radiocentre needing to exist as an advocacy organisation for commercial radio when they were small and local but that ship has long since sailed and the need has long since sailed. Commercial radio as a term almost always means something owned by Global, Bauer or Murdoch's Wireless Group who are all big enough and rich enough to look after themselves and Radiocentre only seems to exist for this continual get the knife in at the BBC.

  6. yeah it is a shock but it makes sense with the Capital Job. It is unlikely to be a prank now but all I hope is that it is his choice. It would be insane to get rid of him when they know Greg and Matt are going to be going soon and Jordan would be the right person to anchor the station through that period

    2nd-5th January

7am-11am: Dean McCullough in for Greg James on Breakfast. (Breakfast extended 11am that week except Friday)

11am-3pm: As usual but 30 mins later and 2 hours fifteen longer.

    7th January/14th January

9pm-11pm: Alyx Holcombe doing the Radio 1 Indie Show (She's not listed as standing in for Jack so does she take over the Indie show then?)

Essentially they are bringing back a combination of the Summer/covid/"Iconic 2-6 show" type schedule for that week then?

Yes, like @Old Codger Fan said unlikely to happen and what you said some broadcasters like Global would hate it and Jono think thats the main reason it would never happen. At least on-demand radio experience is vastly improving.

It would be good but there will be some reason, my theory is that Global or Bauer would see it as a way to avoid ads indirectly without paying. But also you would not kept in a captive environment to just leave it on which is what wallpaper radio stations lives on

  9. I get why Maida Vale and Wogan House are being sold and it makes sense but it feels like there is somewhat of a endings to things both because of the history particularly with Maida Vale where R1, 1Xtra and Asian Network felt like their own thing together and likewise with 2 and 6M. But it is more possible with 1X and AN having many shows from Birmingham, and the others split between London, Salford and Cardiff. Presumably unless they are planning to move even more and Breakfast seems to be the one thing they would keep in London at some point very soon you will have Greg, Nadia, Zoe, Lauren and Nikita all broadcasting in Studios on the 8th floor. And of course with their successors, whoever they will be.

But its also curious about where they will do the live sessions, because the 2nd not live live lounge in Maida Vale as well as all the other studios there where most sessions on 6 Music or 2 or Radio 1 Specialist and evening show sessions being there. So I assume the Live Lounge on the 8th Floor might be used for sessions for R2 and 6M, or they will use other stuff in NBH like Radio Theatre. Salford is of course an option because on 6 Music it all seemed to be from Maida Vale whereas now NMF or Riley and Coe will have sessions in Salford. And I assume sessions on Huw Stephens show could be from Cardiff

  10. Seconded on that, even Boom plays 21st Century Music! Boom! From when it has been on when at older relatives the adverts are a dead giveaway who it is for as they are all targeted at 65+ people. But the fact that a station that entirely exists for pensioners has a more current music policy than what is supposed to be a station with a large audience across a reasonably wide age range.  Boom doesn't play much "current music" but George Ezra and stuff like that iirc from what I know but the fact it plays any is sort of damning on the entire format of GHR. I wouldn't voluntarily listen to any commercial radio but Virgin is definitely one of the better options

I don’t think they’ll get rid, it seems to cover their live set and outreach remit, and of course provides a way to engage with the fans of the station.

Of course it’d be cheaper for them to just do that Out Out concert they did in 2021 every year, but that would mean they don’t met the above two points if they did that. And of course, it’d be a bit bland doing it in Wembley every year.

Also they would be accused of copying Capital with Summertime/Jingle Bell Ball while not necessarily true it does hit that Radio 1 going to all these different cities and towns across the country is something cannot or at least will not do. It would just be more boring to make it one place. The 6 Music festival Greater Manchester feels the same, a decision that is obviously for cost savings and feels exactly like that

  12. Hi I'm James and I've been using the site for just under a year. I found the site in July 2022 looking up something from Scott's show (think it was something in the whoooo game???) after Scott and Chris announced they were leaving. I was lurking and reading the forum for a while but became a member a few months after that. I'm a big radio nerd and listen to Radio 1 as well as Radio 2, 1Xtra, 6 Music regularly and bits of Asian Network, 5 Live and BBC Local as well

So from 19 years ago is it only Daniel P Carter, Pete Tong and Annie Nightingale left?

Damn has Dan P Carter really been there for that long, I knew it was over a decade  but I didn't know it was over 19 years

There is a fair range of oldie to more recent. The great 'Weekends' by Freya Ridings gets a good airing, for example (something that GHR wouldn't go near).  Only complaint is that the 'oldie' selections need varying more - I've never heard any other Michael Jackson record than 'Black Or White' on there, for instance ....

And whilst we're talking about Ricky Wilson - He's really under-whelming on his own - He was great when he had Gaby Roslin to bounce off ....

Saying GHR wouldn't go near isn't really saying much, their playlist is not capable of having anything from this century by design or of having. But yeah Virgin is one of the main commercial stations in that competing for Older Radio 1 listeners and younger Radio 2 ones. Hits radio sorta is there too on

  15. Well whoever guessed either Adele or (less likely) Gemma Bradley leaving, you were right. Any other changes are yet to come out. I think Greg is staying for at least this year and Annie Nightingale, if she wants to retire she should be allowed but if she wants to stay she should be allowed too

Wonder if Adele Roberts has been poached for a commercial rival like Heart FM

I was thinking that, could see her popping up covering on Radio 2 and 5 Live like Scott did and Sara before him but if she gets a job anytime soon it will be Heart or something else commercial. It could be anywhere but Heart have form on recently left Radio 1 people because of Dev being there now. Yasmin Evans from 1Xtra springs to mind too. Wish her luck wherever she is going, even if I know I won't listen.

How interesting in his long time career at the BBC (well ten years or just under) would be Ace’s first only time presenting exclusively on radio 1 without a simulcast with 1Xtra. I’m surprised that 1 Xtra aren’t carrying a repeat of Victoria Jane’s show in their 10PM-Midnight slot on either Wednesday and Thursday

Ace has been on 1Xtra on and off almost since the beginning of 1Xtra as a station, he was there at station launch in 2002 but he was there in very early days 2002/2003. I remember he was saying this on his show at the time of the 1Xtra birthday celebrations last year and trying to calculate how many hours of radio he had done with help from listeners and his producers lol. He had a couple of breaks of a few years but its well over a decade combined together. Considering how long he's been there Its weird that he hasn't popped up in any situation, particularly as he could cover RMC in the way MistaJam used to cover for Greg.

Its one of the baffling things about the separation of 1 and 1Xtra, as Radio 1 has played more Black music and particularly more Black UK music (100% homegrown as it was called on 1Xtra years ago) they are less reliant on 1Xtra. Apart from when Nadia Jae or Remi or somebody will pop up on Greg's show doing what's my age again they feel very separate. Even before the cutbacks of the 11pm-1am slot and axing three of Snoochie Shy's shows it feels like putting Future Soul on at some time in the night on 1Xtra like they already do with Benji's show is natural. And with Wednesday and Thursday free, it makes even more sense to have done that. The other confusing thing with the 1Xtra schedule is why they're not repeating Tiffany Calver's new show in the middle of the night, considering they know she's a fit with the audience and her new show is more general specialist rather than just rap which feels like its even more fit with R1

There appears to be no Party Anthems on Friday this week. Matt and Mollie's normal show is extended by an hour until the chart.

Either its a mistake and we will end up having party anthems but not called party anthems or its some weird decision been made like when the Queen died. Baffling how all the shows with party in the name had to made generic

Looks like he's in for the next 4 Saturdays. He's sitting in on the 3rd, 10th and 17th June as well.

Jason Mohammed sits in for Owain on early breakfast W/C 18th June. I think that's the first time he's been off since taking over the show.

Adele Roberts sits in for DJ Spoony (The Good Grove) on Friday 23rd June.

Yeah I think it is the first time Owain has had cover, I was sort of curious who would be his cover. Its not like they've got no presenters in Cardiff considering there is Radio Wales and Cymru and Cymru 2 but they still want someone with the right feel. Jason makes a lot of sense considering he already is on Radio 2 and is based in Cardiff. Tho with all the people who have covered for OJ (and for Janice Long and Alex Lester before) I think it might be about who is willing to work and be up at stupid o'clock more than anything else. Huw Stephens could be a possibility as well

Fairs fair,  with Afrodeutche some of 6 Music’s programming can be polarising something I listen to or catch up to but remembered Friday nights tend to catch up with the Elis James & John Robins Podcast didn’t know he was even on Virgin Radio in 2015. Seems like an alright format of chucking the odd track in between a chat with Abott.

Meant to post this weeks but agreed on most of that, Nick Abbott wasn't on Virgin in 2015. What old codger fan meant was Virgin 1215. 1215 meaning the AM frequency aka what is now Absolute Radio. Its way before my time but yeah I have heard good things about it
