I saw this on twitter earlier sounds like the way things at the bbc are going..

i don't know what made you think to post this but it's just not true and shows a complete lack of understanding, and its just vicious..  radio 2 is good at being radio 2.  yes it has some people on it who aren't great as traditional radio DJs (rylan), but they don't want that.  if anything it's getting more modern and less bogged down in the past, while still appealing to a wide older age range.  scott will do very well there.  people need to stop attacking stuff just because personally it isn't for them.  by all means criticise anything you want, but constructively, don't attack stuff for the sake of it.  sorry if i sound a bit annoyed, i'm not, it just triggered me a bit.

Radio one sounds good at the moment. Do feel it needs some sort of music only slot, so maybe Clara's slot. Not no talking just make it about the music like mistajams show. Maybe a new music slot an hour a day, new stuff not on the playlist.

Don't like Matt he is the most dull man alive. Life hacks is a very poor show. I always turn that off.

Scott and Chris love it, great show always proper funny. Same with Gregg good solid show. Grimmy time for him to go to crapitol or something too much about him and his celebrity mates.

Gordon north needs his own proper show.

Annie Mac 7-9pm weekdays for new music.  People always make digs on here about Capital and the like.  Maybe some don't like the music (a lot of the target demo do), maybe you don't like the high rotation (it works for their aim), maybe you don't like the quick links or style (up to you), but none of that means it isn't a very high quality product, incredibly slick, and employs very very talented people, talented in a fast paced, less obvious way than the likes of Radio 1 DJs.  It's not massively my cup of tea, but it's very good at what it does.

I love Scott & Chris. Adele in the mornings is just perfect for the time of day. I've listened to Greg from early breakfast through to mornings. I really dislike his morning show and that intro music drives me insane. Jordan is R1's hidden weapon - he's brilliant at any time of day, but it would be great if he took over the morning show. At weekends, Matt & Dev on their own, minus the sidekicks would be perfect. Playlist-wise, far too much rap currently - I thought that's what 1 Extra was made for.

they play hip hop because it's in the charts and it's popular.  1Xtra is for "The remit of 1Xtra is to play the best in contemporary black music with a strong emphasis on live music and supporting new UK artists. The schedule should also offer a relevant news service, regular discussion programmes and specially commissioned documentaries relevant to the young target audience (15-24 year olds), particularly - although not exclusively - those from ethnic minorities." not exclusively hip hop, but it does play it a lot because that fits it's remit.  It currently fits Radio 1's remit to do so because it's targeting 16-24s, and during the day plays new music and stuff in the charts, all designed to appeal to that demographic.  Radio 1 is the mainstream youth station, and currently, hip hop, grime and rap are very on target, and enjoyed by much of the demo, so they play it.  They'd be mad to not play it a lot, like when Radio 1 ignored a load of dance trends in the 80s.

I too missed it - I thought it was Sunday he was on - but good to read the positive feedback on here. Obviously I’d like Scott to stay at Radio 1 for a long time yet but good to know the path is being made clear for him at Radio 2. Listen Again is on later.

he's already been there 20 years and he's 45 years old, it's amazing he's lasted on a radio station targeting 16-24s this long.  shows what you can do when you remain relevant to the audience.

Been seeing a few quotes on Twitter today from a speech Greg gave at some European Radio Conference. To summarise, Greg really doubling down on the whole "the listeners are more interesting than me so I make it about them" thing.

Honestly, I can't say I agree. If that's the case then anyone could be doing the show - the reason Greg does it is because listeners are interested in him and his stories. He never used to do that shtick in the afternoons - it was HIS show, so I don't know where the whole modesty thing comes from. It's almost like he's embarassed to be there. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy listener's stories when they're funny and weird like on Scott's show, but not when they're the main attraction. I DO want to hear banter between presenters and stories from their own lives, that's why I listen - I've built up that relationship with the presenter over the years.

I'm really sad about how little Greg's breakfast show does for me, I'd wanted him to get the gig for years and I really wanted to like the show but whenever I listen I just get fed up with how safe it is. And I used to love his afternoon show with Chris Smith. Haven't listened for months, although with local breakfast shows on Capital ending I'm not sure where I'll end up. Danny Mylo on Pulse 1 in West Yorkshire does a good show. Maybe I'll come back to Greg at some point, but for now I've gone right off.

From the way this is going, it feels like Greg is just a temporary host until they can find someone dynamic and different.  He’s bland on Breakfast.  I almost wish Grimmy had stayed on.

  6. Yeah and the whole team definately were when Sara covered in 2010 when CM and his girlfriend split
The Monday CM got stuck in the US with the ash cloud, when he did the show from the US on the Tuesday, and Dom was stuck in France Scott covered Monday with Becky and TOTDS, Tina was doing news and during the show Dave called in and I am sure he said it was contractual he couldn't be there
CM called in as well during the show - the next day the show was done from the US, with CM down the line in a studio and Aled doing the desk in London I assume on the Monday when Scott was doing the show Aled was off arranging the show for the next day hence TOTDS covering

I think the contractual thing was Dave couldn’t be on “The Scott Mills Show”

I think they could be the next answer on Breakfast after Greg maybe, in 3-4 years time, or being lined up to take over for Scott if he leaves? I could see Grimmy leavign and Scott doing drive again to allow these 3 onto daytime maybe

That’d be good, but I really doubt Scott returning to drive.

I really hope Scott and Chris have a good two week stint covering for Greg, I imagine that’s how he’ll take breaks, unlike Grimmy, more like Moyles. I remember reading somewhere that Dave couldn’t come into the Moyles show unless Moyles was hosting it, a whole contractual thing.

I am so sorry.  It’s posted this four times on the app and I have no idea why.

He'll probably have Easter off, Scott is not getting as much breakfast cover as he used to have, by default he has a bit recently with the Escape Room and Lolothon, but unlike Grimmy Greg is not one for dropping out after a heavy night with Miss Ora or Geldof - very reminiscent of Zoe and Saras partying days, I think he has shown for every drive show thus far apart from holidays
Greg is very much like Moyles in that way where he wouldn't miss a show unless there was a Holiday or a crises (remember when him and his GF spit Sara stood in for a few days)
Question on that front - did Scott ever cover for Moyles working with Aled, Dave and Dom ?

Hopefully they'll bring the listenership with them when they join Radio 1, the station could do with a boost in listeners.

I wouldn’t be too sure, the proper fans of their show should, but mostly Kiss listeners, even at Breakfast I’d imagine, will be listening for the music, which will be much less and not the same on Radio 1.  Their show so music heavy it was unreal, at least when I heard it, it made Capital daytime shows sound full of chat compared.

  14. It turns out from the answer Scott does the chart in 82F and they get kicked out of 82A when there is a live lounge on, Clara and Grimmy use 82D normally and they see each other  So Fridays must be

    Adele 82D

    Matt and Mollie 82F

    Maya 82A

    Dev/Alice 82D

    Scott 82F and Annie 82A

MistaJam may use the same one he does 1Xtra drivetime in on a Saturday maybe and as 7pm Saturday is a 1Xtra take over maybe Target uses the one he uses on a weekday, and the R1 ones dont get used

Out of interest, does anyone know how many Studios were at Yalding House

Cel and Katie are 82F, so I guess MistaJam probably is if Scott is as well on a Friday. Didn’t afternoons use to be 82E on Fridays before the three day weekend? I love this it’s proper geeky chat. Matt and Mollie are pretty much always 82D aren’t they? It’s one of the big ones with the purple walls, rather than blue, and Maya is 82A so it’s gotta be 82D.

Very predictable this year. It’s all artists on the playlist. Apart from two I don’t get why they are playing- Two Door Cinema Club And whoooooooooo? Is Catfish and the bottle man

Those artists are a massive deal, and have been a big part of Radio 1.  The only WHOOOOO on the lineup is Mylie Cyrus.  And the current playlist doesnt have every single one of those artists on it, although it has previously, but if it hadn’t why would they play big weekend.

Cel??? On Breakfast. Nope can't see that happening!

Don't rule it out.  He's in his 20s, he's pretty "cool" if you think about it, and he has big appeal with the demographic.  He'd obviously need to improve a lot more.  If not then it's gonna be someone like Roman Kemp, or someone else we don't know about.

How about My Way? Him and Chris could sing it lol

not a bad shout.  when Scott leaves, the likes of Nick, Clara and Greg (in that order) can't be far behind.  They are all the "older" DJs now, daytimes need a rethink in the next year or so.  Greg feels more and more like a transitional host for a year or so on Breakfast, he's way too bland and serious sounding these days, as a teenager I can tell you everyone my own age would rather listen to Capital than Greg, same can't be said for Dev and Alice or Scott.
