  1. Now that the new schedule has had time to bed in, what are your thoughts on how the station is sounding at the moment? I have to say, I personally think that the station is sounding pretty good right now. Many presenters seem to be top of their game and there are no obvious weak spots that I would personally change myself.

In terms of each show individually:

Dean - As much as I don't hear Early Breakfast that often, I think he is a perfectly competent presenter in his own right. I don't think a partnership worked for him and I do think he sounds pretty good in this show. I don't think he'll be at R1 for the long term though, and wouldn't be completely surprised if he has departed by the end of the year for a commercial network.

Greg - I think he's still absolutely the right person for the breakfast show. The show still sounds pretty fresh (hopefully moreso now that Jan Slam is finally finished with) and I can't see any obvious person who would take over that show now.

RMC - I enjoy the fact that their show has been a complete departure to what came before it. I'm still not completely convinced it's the best slot for them, but I don't see where else they would go on the schedule now.

Matt and Mollie/Jerry - My favourite show on the network now! I love how fresh the show always sounds, there are plenty of features all the time and the 2 1/2 hours flies by.

Vick, Katie and Jamie - I don't know what to think of this show. Sometimes I find it really enjoyable, other times it seems a complete mess. I have grown to like Jamie but I don't think the lack of consistency with the presenters helps at all (and obviously will be compounded with Katie on maternity in a couple of weeks)

    Weekends:

I think James has settled into that show excellently. Exactly the type of weekend breakfast show that I think R1 should be providing. I've never been particularly keen on Nat and Vicky - their style of show isn't my thing but I can see why some people would (I do really enjoy the 00s/10s show though). I'm actually slightly disappointed with Sam and Danni's new show, it's lacking something for me, whether that's because they've continued some features from the afternoon show before, or something else? I feel like this weekend has been better though so maybe they're gradually introducing more as the weeks go on. Life Hacks I don't really listen to so can't comment on. A quick note on weekend early breakfast - I still don't see the point of it? Feels like a waste of both Ore and Swarzy's presenting skills.

The evenings are good too. Jack's show and Jerry's show are particular highlights for me. I do miss the evening entertainment show though.

In terms of predictions for this year, I reckon it will be a quiet one (obviously not including Mollie, Katie and Shanequa's maternity leave). The only change I can possibly see is Dean leaving and Emil (?) replacing him.

    What do you all think?

  2. If I were him I’d just slot back into early breakfast when he returns and maybe not do any breakfast cover for a while, I dread to think what the comments on his breakfast cover show will be. And I can imagine the handover between him and RMC might be quite awkward as well
  3. It doesn’t make for great reading - however I would guess it’s at least partly exaggerated. Dean and Vicky both presented the show until the very end and it didn’t seem like there were any issues between them? Unless they managed to hide it very well

I missed the days where it was 'normal' personality led shows (even if it was different music, but it was without the pre mixed 'blocks') and the 'B' team such as Adele Roberts Matt Edmondson, Dev etc. stepped up (with Scott & Chris on Breakfast).

I completely agree - they also have such a strong B Team now (and SO MANY presenters that don’t get much of a chance with double header shows etc) that it would be nice to see them at Christmas.

You could very easily see a Christmas week schedule of:

    5am - James Cusack
    7am - Sam and Danni
    10:30am - Nat and Vicky
    1pm - Ore
    3:30pm - Lauren

And that’s with every single normal presenter being off!

  6. I do wonder what the thinking is behind a 1 hour weekend early breakfast show? Will it be live or pre-recorded? I’m guessing it’s so essentially they have Ore and Swarzy on the books as official presenters in the view to giving them more in the coming years!

Very pleased for James though, you can see how much it means to him just from his Instagram post, I think he’ll be perfect doing that show as well.

Sam and Danni are also perfect to take over a more personality led show, it sounds like it will have guests on too which will be a nice change for weekends, there is no mention of them coming from Cardiff though so I wonder if that show is moving to London considering it’s based there at the moment?

I think Matt and Jerry will be absolutely hilarious together, and I’m glad that he’s getting more exposure.

I’m guessing that Friday Early Breakfast will be going back to a presenter rotation now that Sam and Danni will be moving off it?

All in all I think these are a very strong set of changes announced today.

  7. Ahh they’re the perfect changes! Although where has the budget come from for another weekend early breakfast show?! Very happy for Sam and Danni, James and Ore though who have all done their fair share of cover! And Matt and Jerry is going to be chaos!

I can imagine he might also be used for Katie’s maternity cover?

Connor Knight hosting with Danni on 26th October, and then Connor solo on 27th October.

I don’t quite understand this - Danni has hosted the slot on her own before and obviously they’re comfortable with it being a solo show as Connor is showing a day later (and has done many times in the past) so I don’t quite get why she needs a random co-host for a day!

  9. Next weeks Going Home schedule:

    Monday: Just Vick

    Tuesday: Vick and Jamie

Wednesday: Jamie and Sam and Danni

    Thursday: Sam and Danni

This was taken from the At Home podcast today. It is assumed that Sam and Danni are covering Wednesday and Thursday because both Vick and Katie are off.
