I personally think Clara suits the Live Lounge show well. It has been a single headed, music heavy show since Jo Whiley took over in 2001. It sits nicely in the middle of the workday, inbetween two entertainment led shows. Same goes for Annie Mac. When she took over from Zane Lowe, i did associate her as a dance specialist but i think she fitted in nicely, and based off Aled's commitment to moving her show to a more primetime audience, i think she's going to be there (and rightly so) for a few more years.

The strongest weekday schedule imo is the same as now except:

04:00/05:00-07:00 Adele Roberts staying put. I don't get to listen all that often, but i think she's fully in tune with her "Early Morning Crew".

And of course Jordan on drive, which i can see being brought forward soon.

I totally agree with the leaving Adele where she is, BUT and a massive but... she has been on earlies since 2015 5 years

I know the start time has moved to 5am so she can get up effectively an hour later, however as a shift worker myself, I know what a toll 3/4 4am starts can have on me, so how she does it daily, and being the person she is she was actually up around 2am, and often going out for a run etc before work, going to bed at 6/7pm most nights, must all take it's tole

So as much as I'd like her to stay, she deserves a lie in, and weekend breakfast (if I was her) is a happy medium, means she can now get up at 5/530am twice a week, it doesn't really ruin a weekend and it leaves her open to be able to cover weekday slots

What will be interesting is A. who'll be the cover for Dance Anthems now Charlie who became the cover is now the host, will we see Arielle covering or will we see one of the weekday presenters covering? I'd love to see Scott do a shift covering it or Greg

Fully agree with all of the above posts. I miss the banter between Greg & Chris Smith, What's My Age Again and the mayor of where? especially. I think he's great and it was a spot on decision by Ben Cooper and Aled to swap him and Grimmy. Maybe it's just i miss that old dynamic on the drive show, and Radio 1 in general at the time. A lot has changed (both for the best and not so great) since, and it's understandable things would change a bit upon landing the breakfast show. Regardless, it's great he now has 5 days and long may his time on breakfast continue. Should Jordan be offered drivetime, that would make a very strong line-up with Scott & Chris plus Annie Mac and Jack Saunders in the evenings

Go back further, and i enjoyed the pre chart show era, with Feet Up Friday. Maybe wishful thinking but would love if they revived the idea somewhat, maybe in the last hour of the show

Here's a question, when it was Greg's drive show before the chart, on a Friday Scott used to do Floorfillers or ready for the weekend, but what did Greg do in the 6-7 Friday slot ? I know it was branded as Dance Anthems on Friday when the chart came in was it that before though

  3. Morning All

As we approach her last shows on earlies, I am still at a loss as to weather Adele has been promoted, demoted or sideways moved

Going from earlies to weekend breakfast, a more social slot than having a 4am alarm but not on air daily, but on air one hour less a week in total, totally different audience

Then there is Arielle, she's definitely been promoted and wonder if this has been done to make her the dep for Dance Anthems, so she's not on air at weekends but can cover

Matt & Mollie? backwards step from the weekend breakfast to afternoons, but still on a Friday demotion I would say as they have gone from breakfast on a Friday/Saturday to afternoons

I feel the same about the bits I hear from Radio 1 now. It feels more and more like a carbon copy of 1xtra, years ago you could easily separate the two. Just the way the music scene is, rock and indie with young people seems less relevant compared to the 90s and 00s youth. Coupled with the fact that we don't have the big indie/rock bands we had way back. There was a time where through the 00's you had Foo Fighters/Linkin Park/Blink 182/White Stripes/My Chemical Romance/Friendly Fires/Kings Of Leon/Arctic Monkeys... being hammered for weeks on the A list. Foo Fighters have just released a new tune last week, if it gets any higher than Radio 1's B list for more than 2 weeks I'll be surprised. I hear 1xtra playing house music now, when launched in 2002 that was unthinkable. It was garage, hip hop, early grime and r&b back then.

As far as indie and bands during mainstream(ish) hours, has Zane Lowe been truly replaced? Felt like he almost single-handedly pushed the Arctic Monkey's into the big time in late 2005 with no only the support he gave them, but the influence he had on getting them onto heavy rotation on the Radio 1 playlist.

Radio 1 dance feels like it has good intentions with room to grow, Radio 1 have been at it with dance since the very early 90's. It's a chance for them to run some old archive Jules/Rampling/Pete Tong/Carl Cox Fabio & Grooverider shows from the 90's and 2000's overnight, and keep it more modern in the day.

They are missing a trick - they could run hours of Dave Pearce Dance anthems shows too

    Hi All

Just wondered everyones thoughts on another presenter leaving Radio one. Seems to be a few leaving lately  Maya, Alice and now Mista Jam what is going on ?

I am surprised at this announcement, not just a DJ - an established DJ he has either had a blinding offer, or he has fallen out with someone, I will miss him I wonder if he knew for some weeks already and Charlie knew, it all seems quite organised

I'm not sure I know the reason exactly, but I do know that there have been several changes to the studio allocations recently (since the new schedule started this month).

So on weekdays Adele and Clara's shows now come from 82F.

Weekends Arielle and Jordan also now come from 82F.  The chart comes from 82E and Danny is in 82B.

Interestingly, the 1Xtra breakfast show has been in 82D recently - it always used to be 82F.

It seems that any shows with a co-presenter must come from 82A or 82D as these studios are larger, making social distancing possible.

I wonder if that's because 1xtra breakfast will be a co-hosted slot going forward?

  7. I Know I have asked this before, but never had a solid answer, and some newer members may know, so why is it on a Friday and the weekend the studios seem to swap for example on a regular weekday Adele, Clara, Grimmy and RMC are in 82D and Greg, Scott, Annie and Jack come from 82A but at weekends it seems to change, Arielle 82A, M&M 82D, Jordan 82A, Dev 82D, Scott 82 (E/F??) Annie 82A and Danny 82D

Anyone have any idea why this happens, also why doen't Scott just use 82A on a Friday or is that because Annie insists on 82A every time

To answer my own question, it looks like Scott’s actually on holiday that week. No one seems to be off on Radio 2

It makes sense for Scott to have a holiday

I mean he worked all of the summer I think bar the weeks he was forced off for Clara on 11-3, I see Sam his BF is involved with Hits Radio South Coast but not sure where? cannot see him on the schedule

I would think Chris would usually have the same week, but it has happened before

i also wonder now if Dev is the main daytime cover again? now Jordan has his own slot 3 times a week, wonder if Dev will be the main cover for Scott and Grimmy? or will it be Cel going forward, has there been a swap of roles, Cel is now the supply teacher as Jordan has the weekend mids slot?

Also now, what happens to the chart when Scott is off, as Jordan was often used for that, will that be someone who's not on a Friday like Katie? Vick? maybe Mistajam (he did it for Greg back in the day and he doesn't work Fridays) or someone like Jordahn with Cel covering for him

Hello everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster :)

With the new imaging for Radio 1 Breakfast getting introduced this week I thought I'd share my little library of the old intro that I've had since Greg's first breakfast show.

Included are all the variations of the intro used (I believe) which are - Greg James, Scott and Chris, Matt and Mollie, The unnamed intro (Used when Jordan and Mollie covered as well as Arielle Free) and the solo Scott Mills intro (Used when Chris' wife had their baby).

There are also 3 variations of "The One For Getting Up" (TOFGU in the folder) as well which are - Greg James, Scott and Chris and an unnamed version (If anyone happens to have a Matt and Mollie and Scott Mills version then please let me know!)

Hope anyone who has wanted these enjoys them - I'm looking forward to posting  more on here soon

YAY Hello Nathan, welcome, I know Nathan he's a top lad, you should liseten to his shows on Uckfield FM

Yes I thought that. It’s a shame as I love the chemistry between Jordan & Mollie, but doesn’t make sense to take him off the new weekend show 1 week after starting

Plus as Jordan, launching your "new" slot why would you want to be on someone elses gig? specially co hosting with her, I'd rather be on my own show

  11. I would like to go with Scott and Greg, i'd love to discuss their early careers, I am on community radio, what it was like for Scott to work at an old FM station in the 90s, and when is Scott planning to go to R2... (I wonder if ladbrooks would run a book on it lol) Sadly at 40 I am too old to chase the dream, the biggest slot I get to cover is weekday drive on Uckfield FM which has a good following, usually twenty odd online listeners, and lots of FM in shops and all around the town, Uckfield drive is great on a Friday, from 6 there is a feature called "feel good Friday" which is similar to "ready for the weekend" Scott used to do, but more 90s/00s dance music, also just bagged Monday breakfast at 107 Meridian FM, which I have just been given but not done it yet. I'd love to learn what life is like at R1, what happens behind the scenes, what is Aled like as a boss compared to how he was on air years ago, and was Moyles really as much of a bully as rumored.

I also like Mistajam as well, he seems like a great mate when he's on the radio.

We've had two years of Greg James on Radio 1 Breakfast. I've been listening to a lot more since the whole pandemic forced me to work at home, and I have to say it's still as refreshing as day one. It's the sort of silliness the whole family can listen to - which I didn't think Grimmy's show achieved (although I think that was intentional).

The last few days of Jordan, Scott and Greg on daytime has been quite male-dominated but the nonsense has been a bit of a joy to listen to.

    It's been brilliant

Going to miss Scott covering next time, but i'll be tuning to R2 next week as this could be the start of him covering weekday shows, not sure he'd get to cover for Vine though, but I can see him covering for Ken and Sara and maybe Zoe

Greg is great on breakfast, and they did the right thing putting him on drive for 6 years so he could come in and refresh it after the Grimmy era, imagine if he had got it after Moyles, then he would probably have finished now and we would have a new host, although I still maintain that Scott should have been appointed in 2012 and maybe Grimmy getting afternoons

But if Scott had got it then where would he be now? probably out, the reason he's been about so long is not only his relevance but also he's not in the prime slot, so in the background as such

I can see Jordan getting 1-330 if Scott moves to R2 full time, i'd say he would be lined up for the big show if SW retires, but with a schedule change to 2-430 and Sara starting at 430 instead of 5

If I was the controller of R2 I would remove the Vine slot if he went to TV full time have Zoe 630-10 Ken 10-1, Scott 1-4 and Sara 4-7

I agree I don’t really like Anthems anymore, feels unnecessary. They could just slip a couple of classic turns into the playlist throughout the day. Or make some classic mixes available on BBC Sounds.

I always thought Party Anthems was good 6-7 as it kind of symbolised end of the working week and start of the weekend. Bit pointless 3-4. If they wanted to bring Annie Mac forward I would of done Official Chart 3-5 and Party Anthems 5-5:45.

I don't understand why they have kept Party Anthems, as Annie could include some of those commercial tunes in her first hour

Pleased for Aled at this news. I didn’t know he’d been in charge since before last Christmas, they kept it quiet! Although I’m sure I read something last year about Ben Cooper possibly moving on. Aled has worked his way up the ranks over the years and he deserves this.

I heard Ben Cooper lost out on a popular music role within the BBC and it was awarded to a lady. And then he possibly got the hump with the Beeb and decided to leave.

Aled has been in charge longer, he was head of programes under Cooper since 2017 or so, and he was instrumental in Greg going to breakfast, he has essentially been doing the day to day running of Radio 1 since then and continues to do so today

Really can’t see Greg taking any time off, he’s stated loads it’s his dream job and helps his mental health. I’m sure Jordan will get a permanent slot in the next 6-12 months. Not sure where

I could see Scott going back to drive, but I am not so sure if that would be a backward step?
