  1. Hello everyone.

I've been looking through the podcast archive on UM, and it looks like there was no podcast released on the day of the last drivetime show (Fri 30 March 2012). The podcast for this show was released on the Mon 2 April instead, the day of the first afternoon show, and the next day was the podcast for that day (at least according to your archive). Was there a podcast on the first day of the afternoon show, and does anybody have it? It seems strange that there wouldn't be a podcast for that day (unless it was a show Scott would rather forget!).

  2. Sorry for the double post, my thoughts on the rest of the weekends:

The Matt Edmondson Show- I think the show has lost it's edge since the Wednesday night days. The return of Chris Cox as producer has helped, and it's got dramatically better compared to last year, but it's still not the same as it used to be. I don't think Matt's style suits regular shows, he sounds much too forced to be chatting to me. It suited the comedy show on Wednesday nights perfectly though. I think he'll be on weekends for a while.

Huw Stephens- I'm fairly indifferent about Huw. I don't really listen to his show, but his daytime cover is nothing special.

Danny Howard- I'm not a huge fan of dance music so don't listen, but I'm sure he's good at what he does.

Jameela Jamil- Don't listen to the chart much either, when I've heard it she sounds very forced and uninteresting.

Dan and Phil- I've only heard them on other shows (like RONR with Scott), but they annoy me. They're just internet nerds who think a cat playing the piano is still funny (WHOOOOOOOOOOO!) along with other HILLARIOUS stuff that's SO RANDOM (not)! As other people have said, they are not radio people and don't deserve to be on Radio 1.

Thinking about it, I'm in no position to judge most of these shows because I never listen to them. Oh well!

  3. I've been one of Dev's fans since he started on weekend breakfast the first time round. The amateurishness is part of his act, he is the self proclaimed "ropey DJ" but if you actually listen to his show, it is very slick, with the pips on the hour, the backtiming usually spot on, and he is one of the few DJs on Radio 1 that actually knows how to introduce the news properly (the King of Pedantry strikes again).

I have to admit the features on his weekend breakfast show are bland- Sports Stars is just one of Edith's weekend breakfast features with a different name, Whos-Beat is just another guessing game, but his Early Breakfast features were really funny, the kind of ridiculousness that works at that time of day- Decode the Load and Super Bad Girls to name a few (they were so good that Gemma, who I've never been a fan of, can't be bothered to come up with her own features and just does all of his). He is also very entertaining, and interacts with texters well.

Overall Dev is a really good DJ, and I think his Radio 1 career will just blossom slightly later, like Scott's did (he'd been on Radio 1 six years and was 30 before he got a good show, Dev's been on Radio 1 for five and is still only 29).

  4. I'm glad they're using Dev for daytime cover again, it's been a while. Saying that, his weekend cover shows always used to be pretty boring and lacking in real content, except once I remember he did do a hilarious guide to Christmas when he was filling in for Gemma last year. Hope now he's got more time on his hands he can prepare properly for cover shows and show what he can do.

  5. Hello geeks (myself included, obviously),

There are a couple of beds used on Radio 1 that are quite funky (yes, I just used that word) and I'm hoping people on here (I don't know if Newsbeat is still around these days, he seems to know everything) can help me identify/obtain them.

The first one is this ramp still used by Dev, but I think it's older because it sound like nothing else on Radio 1 now, and it has the the old voice overs on the end (from the Holly and David era, maybe 2009-ish?).

The second is the cool ramp Greg James used to start every show with, I believe it is called Welcome to the Frotline (clip nicked from Wizard, who wanted to find out a similar thing on here a few years back).

If anybody knows who they were composed by, or have a copy they could share with me, it would be much appreciated :-).

  6. Hello- Radio 1 listener since 2009 (although I've recently been listening to some Mark and Lard and Moyles shows from 2004), forum lurker since shortly after, and now I've decided to take the plunge and finally sign up!

(By the way, what's happened to Viv and Doovde, I haven't seen their bickering on the forum for ages!)

  7. I like you Jordan- I only wish Chris Smith would be on from 4 and stay on until 7, so there could be more general chat around the features with his input, especially between 18:30 and 19:00 when it's literally just Greg introducing songs with no real content. It does seem like Chris is "one of the team" now on Greg's show.

  8. I'm looking forward to that. Hopefully Dev will get Chris Smith in for Rage Against the Answer Machine on Wednesday- he usually does the hosts regular features in his cover shows, plus it will be interesting to see how a different presenter interacts with Chris (who, for the record, I think is the perfect sidekick for Greg- their relationship is reminiscent of Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave back in the day, he's great).

  9. I don't think Dev will be on weekends for long- I reckon it's more of a placeholder like when Scott did weekends for the first few months of 2004. I think Dev will replace Scott when he leaves (probably next year), instead of Matt Edmondson (after all, the regular cover never gets a show permanently), who will stay on weekends for a while. I agree with Dawntreader, Huw can go whenever because his show doesn't seem to be going anywhere, he should stick to evenings.

  10. It seems like Scott's playing a lot of music for breakfast standards- 6 or so songs per half-hour. It's rather strange, because he just ends up talking for too long and starting songs when it should be time for the news. #TheUltimateInPedantry

The shows great though, I was laughing aloud to myself in bed at "go open a window Gary"- brilliant! Also I loved the One Direction-Bamboleo/Newsbeat Remixes.
