Or maybe just dropped altogether - it's odd it survived in the first place when they cut news during early breakfast, and I think once upon a time, there was a midnight bulletin as well.

Correct. In the late 80s/early 90s, there were hourly news updates from 6:30am-8:30pm then at 10:30pm and 12:30am on weekdays, along with the 15 minute programmes.

  2. I can't remember when the Specialist Chart was introduced but, in my opinion, maybe it's a good thing that it's being dropped. There are too many charts on the station as it is - The Official Chart on a Friday, Dance Chart on a Saturday (which will probably be dropped after Danny moves to Fridays) and Cel's 'Most Played on R1' chart on a Sunday. Phil does a lot of work for VEVO so it's not like he'll be sitting around waiting for Sunday at 10pm to roll around. Perhaps we'll see more of him doing weekend cover, especially if Jordan does get the 4pm-7pm on a Saturday.

  3. There has been no official press release yet, either by the BBC Press Office or the R1 press office – just an article on Newsbeat’s website. Even then it is still patchy.

Charlie’s new show starts on Monday 6th November. MistaJam will replace Charlie on 1Xtra drive, but no word on Jam’s replacement. There is mention of a new show for DJ Target but does not give a time slot.

You are correct in saying that Kan D Man and DJ Limelight will present a show together on Sundays between 1am and 3am. This part replaces Target’s current show.

Cel and Katie will present on Sundays between 4pm and 7pm. The new show will be called ‘Life Hacks’ – to me, it suggests that The Surgery will be either dropped or merged into this new show somewhat.

R1 will also launch three new entertainment and music podcasts. These will be broadcast between 3am-4am on Wednesday-Friday mornings.

The 4pm-7pm slot on Saturdays is still vacant (I would LOVE Jordan North to be given a shot at this!). If he doesn’t, it is a huge shame as he is brilliant. Phil Taggart loses out again!

How good is Jordan North too? He's become a really slick, natural presenter.

I don't mind Matt but Jordan would be great on this slot permanently.

He's brilliant! The northern wit too just tops it off. The R1 Greatest Hits show is SO good!

I really enjoyed MistaJam covering for Greg particularly on The Official Chart Show. He sounded so slick and it really came across that he was hugely honoured to be hosting the Historic show. Also enjoyed the fact he did his own feature on Thursday between 6-7 replacing the Ten Minute Takeover. It was a way more enjoyable experience than Dev. Perhaps Dev's days are numbered at R1? Or he was just in a can't be arsed to cover again mood (I wouldn't blame him)

Dev was unavailable to cover as he was in Majorica (I think!). Yasser covered his weekend show. Mistajam was much better than Cel Spellman!

They were all talking about filming the ad yesterday, seemend to be done in the afternoon with all 4 daytime DJs Scott posted a pic of him and Greg

Makes sense why Jam covering drive now to release Greg to be with the other 3 to do the filming

Also did anyone hear Scotts reveal today about 35 mins into the show

Mistajam was covering Greg last Thursday and Friday because Greg and Chris Smith were doing signings of their newly released children's book 'Kid Normal' - not because of summer mix advert filming. Scott and Greg appeared to film their pieces in the morning and Grimmy and Clara in the afternoon.

  7. I have done a little research and, since the start of this year, Matt has had five full weekends off and four half weekends off (half meaning does one out of two days).

Does anyone else think holiday entitlement is too generous? For example, Clara does five shows a week at almost three hours long and still manages to fit other commitments around that.

I doubt there'll be any changes, at the end of the day it's still Ben Cooper calling the shots, and he seems pretty happy running the station into the ground for the time being. On a side note, can you imagine lovely Aled firing anyone?

It's unlikely but if he does, can Matt be the first one out the door and replace him with somebody who actually bothers to do his contracted hours?

Now I have another question (thanks for the replied BTW)

It would sound to me that Grimmys whole team are on holiday

Does this mean Scotts whole team moves to the breakfast show and produces that, which is why all of Scotts features are on there - its basically the normal 1-4 show but in the morning, where as when Scott has covered odd days, its all of the usual stuff

If Scotts team is on the breakfast show, then who would be doing the Matt Edmunson show in the afternoon covering for Scott - Matts Weekend team?

When all of the usual breakfast team is off on holiday, yes, all of Scott's team move to breakfast and all of Matt's would move into Scott's show for the period of time that they cover but this is not always the case. However, if Scott covers breakfast when Grimmy is off sick or has the odd day off (usually Monday or Friday), the breakfast team will remain unchanged (i.e. Fiona as AP, Tina as newsreader etc) as will Scott's team in the afternoon.

RONR dependant on the DJ I would say. Greg / Charlie would be guaranteed live, but when Clara plays sometimes it sounds pre-recorded.

Going home song is a good question, would say the day before sometime during / shortly after the show where they ask for people to text in I would say.

Most of the weekend DJ's are in at some point during the week to record interviews and prepare for their shows.

Most of the time when Alice plays, it is live because, as you said, she's in during the week preparing for her shows.

As for other pre-recorded stuff, almost all the weekend interviews are pre-recorded. With Scott's show, things like the Who game and some listener stories (especially when you see Scott's/Chris' pleas on Twitter) are done prior to the show. Other listener's stories can be entirely live though.

I seem to remember Scott and Chris not much liking Lee Nelson, or at least not finding him very funny. When he pulled the Sepp Blatter stunt, they were less than impressed.

I remember that too. Out of all the comedians they could have picked to get in, the producers chose this absolute salad. Seemed like an odd choice of guest considering they were so vocal in their dislike of him.
