Olly, consumer stuff like netgear, dlink etc... is good enough for its purpose - providing a basic internet connection to small businesses and homes. There is no need for it to be amazing. A home router has one primary function, and *most* of the consumer products acheive this. I agree that, yes it has its faults, but when it costs under £100 (some even under £50) what do you really expect. Then again, at home, what do you really need that makes your connection uptime so important.
