  1. We've got A tv, we just use it to watch DVDs and stuff thats been downloaded. For the last couple months we've not been watching anything as live thats all. Considering the amount of films my flatmate has, and the amount I'm out working, I don't think its something we're missing all that much to be honest.
  2. Whoever it was that decided the tram should return to Edinburgh should be shot. They should be shot in the face. They should be shot in the face on national tv. They should be shot in the face on national tv untill they are dead. They should then continue to be shot further. Before I started my bus job I didn't really realise what all was involved, the financial cost, the inconvenience, the damage that is being caused to the surrounding roads while Princess Street is all blocked off. I realise this will not mean much to some people on here, but lets face it the shambolic fiasco has probably been heard of up and down Britain. Basically buses and taxis used to run quite happily along Princess Street, and other traffic was sent away up through George Street which runs parallel. Then the tram works started up, so its everything up onto George Street. For those who don't know, its not particularly big, frankly its not designed to cope with this new level of traffic. The road is breaking up, potholes everywhere, bumps etc. Not the nicest road to drive on, infact I absolutely hate it, I was going along last night in a bus that is already hard to drive at the best of times and noticed even mroe cracks I didn't know about untill last night. There used to be zebra crossings on that road, but the council in their infinite wisdom decided it was best to just paint over them rather than burn them off properly. Common sense would dictate that you don't walk over them but we have to remember that the general public are a frighteningly stupid group of people and still walk across without looking anyway. So many people have nearly been run over on that road by various people, including myself. Unknown to me untill a few weeks ago was the damage it has already caused to businesses. Another street which they were originally going down (the plan has since changed) was dug up for ages a few years ago. There were a lot of small private businesses on that road which had been there for many years and survived perfectly well, but in a very short space of time a lot of them had to close as people simply didn't go there any more. I think the same will happen on the road between Haymarket and Princess Street, I walked along there today and it was clearly a lot more dead than it used to be when traffic was allowed along it. Lastly we have the cost and potentiol for it to all grind to a halt very quickly. I don't know the exact figure but its hundreds of millions of pounds its gonna be costing. The amount thats being spent on it would have been better spent on more of these brand new environmentally friendly fancy nonsense buses that my work has started to get. They could replace every single one with one of those and still have a hell of a lot of the money left over to vastly improve the roads. One of those trams breaks down and we're all screwed. If I break down one day its easy, just drive around me, alright it'll cause congestion but its nothing not gonna cause problems that can't be solved. Then we have a tram, if a tram breaks down surely that could just do the same thing? oh wait no, its on rails, can't overtake if there is a problem infront of it. Silly me. Rant over.
  3. Oh this is one of the reasons I'm glad we don't have TV in my flat since moving in. A ropey talent show is bad enough, without throwing in random nobodies on a block of ice. As for Spence, I've said my bit on him before. That creature is no man, it is an embarassment to absolutely anything born with a penis. I don't just refer to humans, I mean he is an embarassment to literally any male species ever to have existed.
  4. have to hand it to telesales people, they don't give up. Got the usual call about banks, loans, hidden charges etc this morning. Usually they accept it when i say the paperwork has been gone through and nothing untoward has happened. Had to explain twice to this person that my dad works for a bank and has been through it with me and wouldn't have allowed me to do fall victim to the hidden charges thing, the second time i was basically talking in words of 1 syllable to get the point across. I know i could just hang up, but i get a small amount of satisfaction from knowing i've got the upper hand/winnin argument in these situations
  5. Xmas day sucks as far as I'm concerned. As I have written previously, I have no time for religion. Infact I pure straight hate the concept of them. However, I accept the fact that others choose to believe in it, and thats fine as long as I don't get pestered with it. Normally this isn't really a problem, except when it comes to fucking xmas!!!!! For the last few months we've all been getting constant reminders about December 25th. I admit that as a child I was into the whole thing, but that was as a child and I hadn't had time to form a genuine opinion on things, and from my early teens to the present day I've grown to loathe this time of year. I resent the fact that an event which has strong religions significance is cause for the country to apparently be unable to function normally. Can I go to the shops today? Can I go to the cinema? Can I do most of the things I would be able to do on a regular Sunday? Nope I absolutely can't. I can't even say "fuck you" to xmas by going to work because I'm not needed. For the past 7 years I've had to have the day off because the shop I worked in was (wrongly) closed. This year however I'm working elsewhere, somewhere which does actually operate on xmas day. When I saw a notice up asking for people who would be willing to work, I went straight to the depot manager about it. Unfortunately none of my routes were running, and I even offered to go and work in another depot for the day but sadly no single decks were running at any of them today. I'm so glad that we're less than 5 hours away from the shite being over for another year. Its just an expensive, overrated, fake, ignorant inconvenience. It angers me that people who share my viewpoint are branded Scrooge, miserable, boring etc. I'm none of those things, I just find it ridiculous that everyone gets to into it, spending loads of money, getting stressed, putting up stupid decorations and making it seem oh so important. I don't believe at all that its necessary, I can see the event for what it is and I refuse to get sucked into it all. People get themselves into debt, part with way too much money on tat that people don't need, or way too many things for brats, sorry, children. Someone I know has spent about £200 on her son and £100 on her daughter. The boy is only a few years old and the girl isn't even a year. Its beyond ridiculous. At work this week I've seen loads of people getting on the bus with tonnes of presents, and unbelievable amounts of food shopping, whats the need? If you wanna buy something for someone then just buy it, don't wait for xmas or do it just because its xmas, and as for the food, supermarkets are only closed for a couple of days, and some of them are only closed for ONE!!! Yet people still flock to them as if they're closed for a month. I heard a call over the radio at work on Friday that a road was virtually impassable, I know that road very well and there is a big ASDA there, almost certain that the problem was simply people going in to the shop, its just stupid. Back to the event itself though. Its often said that its time for family to get together etc as well. Really? Why? I would have been perfectly happy to stay in my flat for the day, but I know Mum and Dad would have been hurt if I didn't go round. As with the presents thing, if you wanna see people then just see them FFS! Now that I've moved out, I will be doing that where the parents are concerned, and for the last few years I've done that with my brother in Aberdeen. If I want to go visit him I'll just find a suitable time and go, as he does with us. Doing something like that just because its xmas just adds to the fakeness of it all. I have plenty other relatives through in the west, I don't make any effort to see them and they don't with me. I'm perfectly happy with that, just because we're swimming in the same gene pool doesn't mean we have to have anything to do with eachother Rant over, I know others will be offended or think I'm being Scrooge but I don't really care. I find xmas being forced upon me offensive so I think we're even.
  6. shame on you for starting a thread about the weekly karaeoke competition on a side note, i have a little suspicion you have a bit of an attraction to gay men?
  7. Well, my friend who is engaged to the hooker knows we know, for some strange reason he knows all about it and seems to think its perfectly alright. I was very vocal on what I thought of it and what I thought of him since he met her. I was hoping to get the backing from friends to effectively ditch him after the way he behaved, but unfortunately I think they'll probably calm down and still speak and see him and I'll be alone in having distanced myself as much as possible. I feel like a bit of a dick effectively wanting to ditch someone who was a friend, but after what we said to eachother on the phone I don't have much interest in talking to him. If he wants to believe the kinda woman he has is out my league, and that I couldn't get any woman whatsoever thats his call. He seems to think it boils down to jealousy, I think it boils down to looking out for a naieve idiot. However, it would appear he is beyond help, so fuck him.
  8. This is gonna prove unpopular, but I happen to think Clarkson is great. He's not a stupid man, knows how to generate publicity and does it very well. The comment was clearly done as a joke, but unfortunately we live in a society where "controversial" jokes or comments are to be hated. On a side note, I have very little sympathy for the strikes and its days like Wednesday which make me want to withdraw my membership of Unite (I only joined because I felt I was being forced into it when I started my job). Sadly there is a culture in this country of everyone knowing that there is debt and cuts to be made, but thinking they shouldn't be made to the services or policies which affect them. What would the people who went on strike do if they were made redundant through cuts etc? I don't know what the pension situation for them would be there, but I imagine it wouldn't be as good as the one they would get if they just accepted changes had to be made to pensions.
  9. Why are you buying presents for people you consider to be idiots?
  10. Well thats now the start of awful Christmas songs everywhere, only good thing about it is we get Dominick the Donkey in the mornings (like now) PS. for those of you not listening to the show this was quickly followed by All I Want For Christmas Is You. Radio = off.
  11. God I love how some of you are launching an investigation into this based almost entirely around Twitter
  12. No. My opinion is true, sexy, and should be aspired to by others
  13. I don't have any interest whatsoever in football so I'm not gonna pretend I'd ever heard of him till yesterday, infact I assumed he was a rugby person because my brother had posted something on his Facebook about it. Anyways from what everyone has been saying on tv yesterday and the radio this morning it seems to have been a big surprise and almost certain to remain a mystery as to why (at least for now). As was saidon the radio this morning, people shouldn't bottle it up if something is upsetting them. Whether it be talking to a friend, talkign to people online about it, or phoning places like the Samaritans.
  14. yea I noticed that as well Doovde. You are definitly older than me which in my opinion makes you old
  15. Can I just check, are we still on the Mills and Boon and romantic story stuff here, or was this weather based?
  16. You could have easily hidden the shame of typing that by not pressing "Post Quick Reply"
  17. I have to say I think it depends on who the words are being used towards as to whether its offensive or not. I've known of people who have find themselves out of a job through redundancy and want to get back into some kind of work ASAP, infact the dad of a friend of mine has started working in my old work because he was in that very same position. People like him it is totally wrong to describe as that as because they don't want to live off benefits etc. However I have also known of people who live off the state. Exgirlfriends cousin and her waste of space boyfriend were exactly those kind of people. I think its completely right to describe those people as dole dossers, they were the type who had the fancy tv, phones, consoles, clothes etc. Its the same with someone else I know of who got it all because she fell pregnant, and to top it off these kind of people are the ones who are likely to use phrases such as ".......when I get my money through". Sorry but its not their money, they havent earned it and get it because of the complicated and at times seriously flawed benefits syetem we have in Britain. I'm not saying that that sort of circumstance applies to anyone on here, just that I think while some would find the phrse dole dosser offensive, there are also times where it is an entirely accurate way of describing their lifestyle.
  18. Woooooo! The increased amount of music will be a bit of a poo, but any extra Vernon on the radio can only be a good thing.
  19. I hope its not true either, especially as others have floated the truly horrific prospect that the embarassment-to-men-everywhere Grimshaw could be forced upon our radios.
  20. Oi! I have a cat and I am reasonably normal Anyways, bad times about the fire, hopefully it was just her stuff that was ruined in it though?
  21. I'd love it if it were true, but sadly I doubt it, especially if Dave was apparently surprised when Chris mentioned it (unless I've misunderstood what MJH has said)
  22. Oh I know the main dealers charge a fortune and are more likely to say something needs fixed when it really doesn't. I had a problem last year when a rear suspension coil broke, contacted Vauxhall about the price of a new one and they said it would be something like £100 for a new pair because they replace them in pairs. Wasn't happy with that price so I phoned my mechanic who works for an independant garage and got me one that day for about £30. It wasn't an original Vauxhall part, but it was brand new and fitted my car so I was happy, and he didn't say both needed to be replaced at the same time. Same with last week, I thought the clutch was about to go so I took it round for him to look at and he said there wasn't anything wrong with it so it didn't need replaced. I'm pretty certainly if I'd gone to my Vauxhall dealer they would have probably taken advantage of the fact I thought there was something wrong. Nice idea, we've tried that but he's going on about needing people round there to try on suits for the wedding and that he can't afford to go out anywhere, even the price of a bus fare. He's gone in a bit of a strop, emailing us all an ultimatum on Facebook about how we never go round and those who do only go round for half an hour at most then leave and this is our last chance to go round before he starts "dropping" people. I called another mate about it last night cos we're a bit pissed off that he's not accepting people not turning up without a "great excuse", my mate thinks he knows fine well its because of her and isn't happy about it. I can't speak for all his friends, partly because I've never met some of them, but certainly the guys I know say she is the reason. She tells far too much information to people about private things (the one time I met her she told me something about how a vibrator had spoiled her sex life, and she told my mate something absolutely horrible about them and a vegetable, TMI!), makes ridiculous noise just to get attention, and is a prositute. I think being a prostitute alone is enough reason to not want to be around her. For anyone who hasn't read this in the past, I'm not just saying that to be horrible, she IS one. She told the guy I spoke to last night that guys paid her for sex although she seemed to think this wasn't prostitution, and after a bit of googling she has been found on a website for people who offer "adult" services with info, prices and a list of what she'll do.
  23. Well unfortunately because I paid the bill its gonna be a lot more difficult to get anywhere than if I hadn't actually paid it. I think I'll have to put this one down to experience sadly. In other news I'm faced with a bit of a dilema again. As I mentioned previously on here a friend of mine has got himself involved with a woman who is bad news and a few of our friends have distanced themselves a bit because they don't want to be around her. I'm not ashamed to say I'm the most vocal on my opinions about her and haven't had much contact with him since they got engaged and I've also said I won't be at the wedding. I met her once and vowed not to meet her ever again. Seems I'm not the only one, and not many people have seen much of him in the last couple of months and a few have said they won't be at their wedding which is apparently getting him down. She's messaged me on Facebook asking if we'd go round next weekend and I don't like the thought of a friend getting down because he feels like he's been ditched but I'm really not happy with the thought of going round there and having to endure her company for any length of time whatsoever. Some of the guys are thinking about going out next Saturday, now we would invite him but then there is the prospect he'll bring the dreaded creature along and then there is also the issue of they'll say we are happy to go out into town but we won't go round to a "party" which we were all invited to a couple of weeks earlier
