Don't be fooled. This is the paper trying to be nasty. If you look carefully the quote is what she said to him before they went up the mountain. Who knows what the question was? "What would you do if Chris flirted with you on the mountain?", "what would you do if he picked on Nicola again?" that doesn't suggest as the article tries to report that she 'hasn't forgiven him'. It's incredible to see how papers work now that I'm around the people who get reported. It's more often than not articles written to fit the agenda of the paper concerned. The Sun last week used fake quotes from Radio 1 (the clue is in the language the "source" used) and this piece is no different. It's more telling to see who writes the articles. All the nasty pieces in the Sun come from the same journalist who Chris once named and shamed on air as being a lazy journalist. etc

This week the topics are: Is Sport Sexist? (Men can't take part in synchronised swimming at the Olympics - male football much bigger than female football etc) and what age should you be to be a parent? 13? 16? 26? 40?

Before I do a Surgery I try and do as much research as possible about the topic / debate that's on that week - that includes reading forums like this one so your opinions are very interesting.

Ah! The term was something like, "there are other ways of getting some fresh voices on the show without pushing people off the team" and it was a reference to the new emphasis on callers. It's only in its infancy - we're still finding our feet with the callers but it'll develop. We're throwing around a term "Chris Moyles Show ambassadors" behind the scenes, and we think opening the phone lines and finding new characters in our listeners might provide them. At the moment the callers sounds like any other show that has callers on, but there's a couple of differences. The way they're selected are different to other shows, Chris has no knowledge of who they are or why they're calling so it introduces an element of riskyness - something which the team work so well with, it also means they're not produced in any way - that stops the callers sounding samey. This is something that most other radio stations do - by doing it our way we're hoping it will provide more surprise callers.

You wanted Christmas stuff on Christmas Day. That may / may not have been the best showcase for Moyles but a best of day will guarantee you show off the best stuff

Happy New Year! To listeners who may not be a breakfast audience In all the same areas that we've had the same level of high exposure for the last 5 years. This was about reaching a different audience. Apart from New Year's Day when was the last time you heard Chris outside of the pre 10am slot? (apart from a 50 second trail) If you were to have a weak breakfast then you'd have a weak radio station ratings wise which would affect Mills, Zane and would be felt in all the shows. We best fulfil our public service duties by ensuring a widest possible audience to various sections of Radio 1 (e.g. our specialist output or our Switch zone). Therefore the station, press and marketing signpost breakfast whether it's Chris or Scott and then within breakfast (with it's big ratings) signpost the other sections of Radio 1. Christmas Day and Jan 2 has given attention to other DJs which is why Jan the 1st was put aside for a big Chris Moyles project.

We did 10 Best of Packages so it depends when you listen. The running order doesn't show them because they were the things that took the longest so went in last but they'll be at around the 35 past the hour generally. 7 - 10 had already gone out for Easter so we mainly worked on the Best of packages for after this section. So there'll be more best of packages from here till the end at 7

Hey guys, with all due respect some of you are kinda missing the point of the 12 hour show. New Year's Day isn't a ratings winner so it's not worth putting your heavy hitters on, but what audience there is are more likely to be people who don't regularly listen - different routines probably revolved around travelling to family / friends. So a great opportunity to introduce them to Chris Moyles and for the show to make new listeners. People won't be in offices listening to 8 hours they'd be more likely to hear 15 mins - an hour tops - so what better than put as much of our strongest material on all day so no matter what time they dip in and out there should be something funny. It's not really designed for 12 hours of listening BUT if you ARE that much of a fan it should be entertaining because you'll hear your best memories. AND it's a great way of introducing new people to the podcasts. Plus the 5 year message is a great opportunity to remind people how big the show has been and how long it's lasted. All at a quiet press time.

Thanks a lot for all your excellent opinions and coverage of the subjects and the debate. As we all know it's our favourite topic of Open Surgery next Sunday - so any issues that bother you (including the naughty ones) next Sunday at 10pm. There's no doubt that the debate was a success (by far a record number of calls and texts) it'll be discussed in Radio 1 and I'd imagine a decision will be made about a second debate show in Jan. Kelly O's back in Feb now not Jan. x

This week we're discussing Nationality. What Nationality do you class yourself as and is it important to you? Plus Celebrities. What makes a celebrity and who counts as one? Neither Dom or Dave are leaving the show in January

Hey everyone. Just read this thread and though I'd give you some clues to what's changing (or more accurately, what's not) in 2009. There's no new start time. 6:30 is early enough thank you! Neither Carrie nor Rachel are leaving. Although Rachel will be getting married next year. I will not be leaving either. I love presenting The Surgery, but it's only for 3 months and even if it wasn't - you can't walk away from The Chris Moyles Show!!! Never. I DO agree some new voices are needed but there are other ways of doing that than pushing team members off the show.

This kind of stuff winds me up. There are many more people in this country who are 30+ so even though we have a very high percentage of 15 - 20 year olds (and many more either side) as long as there are are 30+ (or more dramatically 40/50+) then it's going to pull our average out of the age group. Surely with 1.5 million 12-18 year olds listening to our show what the grumpy people who produced that report SHOULD be saying is stop the older people listening rather than make Radio 1 more relevant to the younger audience? Radio 1 once tried that years ago and it was awful. They became too cool for school and I, for one, stopped listening as a young teenager. I'd never want that again. That would bring the average down again. haven't the people who made that report heard Switch or the Surgery? Seen Switch Live or the summer tour? They'd realise we do a lot for our younger audience!

Thank you very much. We were all very proud that so many people contacted us for help. Samaritans were there so we helped many many more people than you heard on air. Working on a topic like that highlights how powerful The Surgery can be. We have some other difficult issues coming soon including bullying.

Hey everyone - just seen this thread. Thanks SO much for your support. Your comments mean a lot as you're on a neutral site so can say what you want about my Surgery deps. There seems to have been a lot of Surgery bashing recently (rightly or wrongly) so I'm going to do everything I can to get everyone on here / aled.info and perhaps slightly less likely cm.net to listen to it and get something out of it. All I know is that this Sunday's show is about depression and speaking to people who feel things have got on top of them a bit lately and then the week after we're off due to an Oasis special. I'm having a meeting with Joce (ex Moyles now Surgery producer) on Wed to discuss future topics and any format tweaks. Any requests?

as far as I'm aware she's back healthy and well. I'll still be on as I'm on the next fortnight with the alcohol. Just finished my 10 - gonna have to start my next 10 at lunchtime as I have to be sober by the show! Why do the Scott Mills team say I'm moody?

Sorry for no mention guys. Part last minute calling, part impossible to focus due to the alcohol experiment tonight's show was like sitting on bucking bronco horse for the whole show. So didn't get chance to do the things I was hoping for. I promise I'll say hi next time! I'm on unit 4/10 now!
