Rihanna is raging after hearing BBC Radio 1 play a new censored version of S&M - which was finally allowed a play after a short ban on the track. The song was given a play under a new name of "Come On" by Reggie Yates during this week's chart show when it charted at Number 20. The lyrics including "sex in the air" and "chains and whips excite me"were edited to make it worthy of a play during the day. The letters"S&M" have, of course, also been removed. The station had originally [...]
The RAJARs are out today - the way audience figures are measured for radio - and it's good news for Chris Moyles and his breakfast show figures. In the fourth quarter of 2010 The Chris Moyles Show had 7.45m listeners a week - up from 7.1m in the third quarter of 2010 and up from 7.24m from the year 2009. BBC Radio 1 itself has an audience of 11.42m a week, which is down compared with the third quarter, but it is up on the last year. Listeners tuned in for less time, but has an 8.8% share o [...]
"Scott Bills strikes again" joked Mills on Wednesday as he talked about an event that happened in America a little while ago where he borrowed one of Robbie Williams' cars. Scott had been in America when he met up with Robbie and offered one of his cars for a couple of days instead of using a hire car firm. The DJ took up the offer - despite a history of accidentally racking up some unpaid traffic fines in the past - and used the car while in the states. Unfortunately the story doesn't [...]
Scott Mills' documentary World's Worst Place to be Gay? will air on BBC Three at 9pm on 14th February 2011. The documentary saw Scott visit Uganda which has been branded one of the most dangerous places to be a homosexual on earth. One reporter who has seen a preview of the documentary said he programme made her "want to shout at the television" while at other times made her "want to cry". Mills spent two weeks in Uganda last November filming this documentary, and previews of the show h [...]
It's not unexpected but BBC Radio 1 have banished Rihanna's latest song from the playlist refusing to play it during the daytime. Based on the name of single - S&M - you might have a good idea what the song will be about, and the video and lyrics does nothing to detract from that belief: "Sticks and stones, may break my bones, but chains and whips excite me." MTV have considered a re-edit, most of Southern Asia have banned it completely and BBC Radio 1 bosses won't add it to the pla [...]
If somebody started singing on the bus would you join in? That was the aim of this week's social experiment for Scott Mills and his mate Chris. They took two London buses and tried belting out the Home & Away theme tune. You can hear the results of the experiment here on Unofficial Mills. [...]
He's a bit like a work experience boy at the moment filling in here and there with the jobs that need doing, but BBC Radio 1 have finally given Matt Edmondson his own show! As part of the changes to the station today Huw Stephens will be leaving the new music show that he presents between 9pm and 10pm on a Wednesday night, freeing up a space for Matt. His show promises to be "new and exciting" and will start in April 2011. Matt is no stranger to presenting shows at BBC Radio 1 having fi [...]
Jo Whiley has quit BBC Radio 1 after 17 years at the station to take up a new role on BBC Radio 2. The former morning show presenter, who currently presents the weekend show between 1pm and 4pm, will start a new Radio 2 show between 8pm and 9.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4th April 2011. A decision on the future of the BBC Asian Network could be made within the next month. The future of the service has looked doubtful since this time last year when the BBC director general Mark Thompson earmarked it and BBC Radio 6 Music for closure. However, although 6 Music was spared, the BBC Trust weren't so kind to the Asian Network. They suggested closure of the service and that the BBC looked to new ways to meet the needs of the station's audience. Now campaigners on Facebook and [...]
The Electric Proms series has given us such treats as Elton John teaming up with Plan B and an exclusive Robbie Williams night with a special string and horn section. Dizzee Rascal performed with an orchestra for 1Xtra, whileOasis performed with the Crouch End Festival Chorus. However, despite all of these musical treats, the BBC has decided after five years enough is enough. Bob Shennan, Radio 2 controller, said it was being axed for "efficency savings". He said: "In the current climat [...]
