Let’s sing, dance and jubilate around the Friday tree as Radio 1 are making Friday’s extra special this summer. They even claim the weekend officially starts on Friday… for this summer at least!
Radio 1’s ‘Summer Friday Thing’ started last week when Scott and the team did the breakfast show from the Fiesta Jungla in Magaluf, Mallorca. Other shows like Westwood’s and Trevor Nelson’s were also broadcasted from the lovely island as Radio 1 try to relate with their listeners by going on holiday in different locations.
Chris Moyles and the breakfast team went on their travels today and did their show from a narrow boat near Oxford somewhere and even slept there on Thursday night to get the real feel. Rosie and Jim were sadly unable to attend. Let’s just say Mr Moyles wasn’t happy Mr Mills went to Mallorca and he was stuck on some wooden boat in the middle of no-where.
Stars in Their Eyes…Tonight Cat…
Also as part of Radio 1’s ‘Summer Friday Thing’ and indeed Colin Murray’s (off of Colin and Edith) appearance in ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ this Saturday, the Radio 1’s ‘Fantastic Five’ DJs along with co-presenters each sang a song on Colin and Edith’s show and were judged by Cat Deeley, who was in an airport.
The line up was thus:
Scott Mills & Chappers Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson – I know him so well
Chris Moyles & Comedy Dave Pet Shop Boys – Go West
Jo Whiley & James King Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta – Grease
Colin Murray (on his own) Performed in the Live Lounge on Jo Whiley’s show
Edith Bowman (on her own) Jay-Z – 99 Problems
Scott and Chappers were the winners with an emotional performance, despite a strong display from Chris and Dave. Who Knows? Jo and James may have won if their song didn’t get lost in the system.

Cat: Or a dry chair!
Law suits came flying into the show in just the first link with a girl threatening legal action after perforating her ear drums by listening to Scott and Chappers’ duet earlier. Not that Scott’s ‘OnlyBleyFriday’ ramble behind the tune of the ITV news helped.
Hate mail arrived for Scott today because he read out a made-up extract from the new Harry Pothead book earlier this week – Harry Pothead and the Half Wit. What disgusted listeners didn’t realize that it was a made-up passage written by Laura! Scott apologised to a little girl, Emily, for the trouble caused.

No Wonder Years today due to Radio 1’s Summer Friday Thing, instead Scott played ‘Summer Big Ones’ (gmornin) – which included one the the greatest songs of all time – Hanson, Mmmbop

Laura off the show ran down the streets of London naked just before the show started. Apparently she has nice puppies. Chappers recommended it to her as a girl in Manchester does it every Fridaaaaay.
In or Out?
The feature where contestants fighting for a place to introduce Girls Aloud in the ‘Big Gay Out’ decide whether certain celebrities are openly gay or not. Today’s contestants were Alex, who got three right and Michael Jackson (not a gayer and not the Michael Jackson) who got five right. A big gay-off happened involving Robin, who got 5/5 earlier this week. At least we can tell this feature isn’t pre-recorded as Jacko had a case of potty-mouth at the end in celebration.
The deciding game, called ‘Find the Lord’, was won by Robin.
