Chris had disappeared from the Christmas party
Chris admitted he had performed a classic party exit after the Radio 1 Christmas gathering: leaving without really saying goodbye.
Scott described it as a Houdini.
Chris preferred the efficiency of quietly disappearing once he had decided the night was over rather than spending another half an hour making his way around the room announcing that he was leaving.
A mystery shopper explained the fake lives
Listener Lucy worked as a mystery shopper and revealed how much acting could be involved.
Assignments were not always as simple as entering a shop and checking whether staff were polite. Lucy created fake names, relationships, children and detailed backstories so she could pose as the type of customer a business expected.
The better her reports became, the more elaborate jobs she was trusted with.
She had progressed to work involving a secret camera hidden in a handbag and could be asked to assess houses and services as well as ordinary shops.
Scott and Chris were fascinated by the idea of building an entire fictional family just to complete an assignment.
Only one caller was genuinely suffering
Hungover or Not Hungover returned with three callers claiming to be paying for the previous night’s Christmas parties.
Martha described dinner and a Soho nightclub with “Yvonne from accounts”, followed by a bacon-and-egg sandwich.
Alex said he had attempted a drinking game, chatted far too much to colleagues and taken a break to be sick.
Jade had worked from home in her pyjamas after an inter-agency party. She had tried to flirt with the only man she fancied, only to discover he had a girlfriend, and then eaten roughly ten hash browns with beans.
Scott and Chris chose Jade.
They were right.
Jade really was suffering. Alex’s drinking story had happened but he felt fine, while Martha was also considerably healthier than she sounded.
Chris finished the programme campaigning for “Little Donkey” to receive more respect as a Christmas song and suggested London Grammar should cover it.
