Scott joined the BBC Club
The team had survived its Christmas dinner, but Scott’s evening took an unexpected detour afterwards.
He went into the BBC Club bar and encountered an extremely enthusiastic membership representative.
What should have been a quick drink became a full recruitment exercise. Scott disappeared for long enough that the rest of the group wondered where he had gone, then returned as a fully signed-up member complete with pass and the promise of a free first drink.
The membership fee was linked to salary and the paperwork advertised an unexpectedly broad range of activities, including a BBC Writing Club.
Scott had gone in for a drink and emerged belonging to an organisation he had barely considered joining an hour earlier.
Elton John asked an impossible question
Scott also remembered meeting Elton John in hospitality at Watford.
Scott had been wearing a distinctive suit. Elton complimented it and casually asked where it came from.
Instead of simply naming the shop, Scott panicked.
He imagined Elton’s wardrobe consisted entirely of bespoke designer clothes and suddenly felt embarrassed about admitting where he had bought his own outfit.
So he invented a much grander answer and said it came from “someone I know that makes suits”.
Almost immediately, Scott realised that sounded far stranger than the truth.
Elton had only asked a friendly question. Scott had responded by apparently inventing a private tailor.
The Rock and Kevin Hart entered Playground Insults
Scott and Chris had also spent the day recording the next Playground Insults with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart.
Both presenters dressed unusually smartly for the meeting. Chris even borrowed Scott’s jacket, shirt and tie rather than risk arriving underdressed.
They did not reveal the insults yet, but confirmed that the two actors had properly thrown themselves into the feature.
The finished encounter would be played the following week.
