Zayn called from New York
Zayn joined Scott and Chris from New York following the release of “Dusk Till Dawn” with Sia. He described splitting his time between London, Los Angeles and New York, which created the surprisingly ordinary problem of forgetting what food he had left in which fridge.
Sometimes he would return after being away for too long and discover something in the fridge had become distinctly unpleasant.
Zayn also explained that he had not actually met Sia while making the track. He had written the song, somebody played it to her and she recorded her contribution separately. Scott immediately tried to turn that into a future night out involving all of them.
The bald head had a practical explanation
Photographs of Zayn with a completely shaved head had prompted huge online discussion. He explained that repeated bleaching had damaged his hair and shaving it off was the simplest way to deal with it.
Chris then managed to turn a straightforward question about whether the hair had started growing back into a much more awkward discussion about exactly how bald Zayn was, before Scott decided the interview had become sufficiently strange.
Zayn also agreed to follow Scott on Instagram. Because he followed only a tiny number of accounts compared with his millions of followers, Scott treated the successful follow as a major achievement.
Corporate social media got sassy
Elsewhere, Scott and Chris discussed employees running major company social-media accounts who had begun answering complaints with unexpectedly cheeky replies.
With Radio 1 approaching its 50th birthday, they also imagined what it must have sounded like for a presenter in the 1960s to introduce a completely unknown new group called The Beatles for the first time.
