Scott and Chris had spent the night in Wales
The pair had already spent plenty of time together before Wednesday’s programme. Scott had DJed at the Young People’s Village at the Royal Welsh Show while Chris was playing another event only a few minutes away.
Chris then stayed at Scott’s place overnight and delivered a review of the hospitality. There had been a towel, coffee and a much-praised new shower head, but no breakfast.
Could your name make you sound attractive?
The day’s new game was Hot Names. Callers gave Scott and Chris their full names and the pair decided, on nothing more scientific than how the names sounded, whether they were “hot”.
Dean Proctor, Lizzy Loudon Foxon, Suji and Josh Cockett all went through the entirely arbitrary judging process.
Then James Beaumont took the game somewhere unexpected.
James asked Amelia out on Radio 1
After being awarded a hot name, James revealed that he had been seeing someone called Amelia and wanted to use his appearance to ask her to become his girlfriend.
He delivered the question live, only for one flaw to emerge: Amelia was on holiday in Budapest and was not actually hearing it.
Scott and Chris therefore called her, explained what James had done and replayed the proposal. Amelia said yes, turning a throwaway name game into an official new relationship.
The programme also speculated about the mystery act still to be revealed for Radio 1’s forthcoming Live Lounge Month.
