19 July 2017: Mikey Mix met his “female Jesus”, Dua Lipa

Nobody knew what The Beast did at a nightclub

Scott had spotted an unlikely nightclub personal appearance in Portsmouth: Mark Labbett, The Beast from The Chase, was appearing at Tiger Tiger.

The question was what a Chaser actually did once introduced to a club crowd. Listeners who had seen previous Beast appearances suggested quizzes, photos and audience questions, while one former pupil rang to reveal that Labbett had once been his maths teacher.

Scott and Chris feared music was running out

The programme returned to its long-running theory that the world was gradually using up all possible combinations of musical notes. They compared recent songs with older tracks that listeners thought sounded suspiciously familiar.

Examples ranged from George Ezra and The xx to Calvin Harris, RAYE and Jax Jones, with Scott repeatedly stressing that the songs were not the same, merely similar enough to keep their “running out of music” theory alive.

Mikey Mix got the surprise of his life

The previous day Scott and Chris had discovered Mikey Mix TV, a small YouTube channel whose creator had filmed a wildly enthusiastic reaction to Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” video. Mikey had called her “female Jesus”, praised the video and declared himself thoroughly slayed.

They got Mikey on the phone and asked how he would react if Dua ever noticed his video. His answer was essentially that he would die, at which point Dua Lipa joined the call.

Mikey was visibly, and audibly, overwhelmed. Dua told him she had watched and enjoyed his reaction, accepted the “female Jesus” nickname with pride and discussed his ideas for future videos. Mikey finished the call declaring himself “shook” and saying the experience had made his existence.
