15 July 2016: David Guetta explains his Euro final nerves and a possible space gig

Matt takes Scott’s chair

Scott is away, so Matt Edmondson presents with Chris. Their working day is repeatedly interrupted by Pokémon Go, which has spread through the BBC as rapidly as it has through the rest of the country.

The main event is Scott and Chris’s pre-recorded conversation with David Guetta in Paris shortly before the Euro 2016 final. Guetta has arrived after travelling through Sicily, Serbia and Ibiza and has spent three hours rehearsing a closing-ceremony production involving an orchestra, a marching band, the riff from “Seven Nation Army” and the electronic sound of a 303.

This one’s for Paris

Guetta describes performing “This One’s for You” with Zara Larsson and says his concert beneath the Eiffel Tower was one of the great moments of his life. It carried particular emotional weight after the attacks in Paris. The unfamiliar scale of the crowd and an estimated television audience of hundreds of millions made him unusually nervous, even after years of major shows.

He talks about building success through positive relationships and exchanging favours rather than treating every collaboration as a transaction. He has met footballers and recalls a Paris Saint-Germain celebration in Las Vegas. Private jets sometimes make his schedule possible, although not for transatlantic travel. Most unexpectedly, he says discussions have taken place about a future performance connected with Virgin Galactic, leaving a DJ set in space as a genuine possibility rather than a studio invention.

Taylor Momsen’s new chapter

Taylor Momsen discusses The Pretty Reckless single “Take Me Down” and the band’s forthcoming album, which she regards as their strongest achievement. Rehearsals take place in New Hampshire, where the drummer has converted a space into a studio. She says her stage conversation is not scripted, even though a familiar line may occasionally return, and encounters the same “prune” selfie expression that caused trouble earlier in the week.

Dev arrives late for a hurried Real or No Real, bringing the substitute presentation to a suitably untidy close.
