Ferne gets her Radio 1 shower
Ferne McCann arrived to discuss her autobiography Cross My Heart, whose title contrasted with a book that exposed rather than protected her secrets. She also spoke about the difficult period involving former partner Charlie Sims, opening spas and beauty salons, and wanting to pursue acting after appearing in a short film at Cannes.
Scott told her that opening a salon could not compete with having a bridge named after him at Fleet Services. Ferne promised to visit, although listeners had begun reporting that the enclosed walkway developed a powerful smell in hot weather.
Ferne had watched Innuendo Bingo, brought a full change of clothes and arranged to go straight home afterwards. None of that prepared her for the first clip, in which Michaela Strachan discussed shags on Springwatch. Further clips covered a farmer’s expectations for his bulls and Ferne’s own reactions during I’m a Celebrity. She attacked the game enthusiastically and accepted that the cold water was an effective way to spend a hot afternoon.
Kristoff finds his look
Chris returned from his duck-pond day off and unveiled the visual identity for his temporary film critic, Kristoff. He borrowed the black rollneck stored beneath Scott’s desk, added glasses and adopted the kind of serious monochrome profile photograph he associated with Ali Plumb.
The look made him resemble a young Richard Osman. Chris also committed to speaking in the third person, despite Scott repeatedly asking him to stop, and began preparing for his first reviews later in the week.
More people confess to punching
The previous day’s relationship question continued. Rosie said her boyfriend resembled Hercules while she looked like Roz from Monsters, Inc.; Gabby compared her partner with a Californian sunset; and Rich said he mentally punched the air whenever strangers appeared surprised that his girlfriend was with him.
Chris concluded that one person in every couple had to be slightly less attractive, so the only unusual part was admitting it publicly. He also accepted that listeners and friends believed he was punching in his own relationship.
Annie Mac later played Real or No Real, correctly rejecting a story about Jade Thirlwall being barred from a curry house for face-swapping with the menu. The Little Mix singer really had posted a naan-bread face swap, but no restaurant ban existed.
