Jimmy Bullard becomes Scott’s new favourite
Chris booked Jimmy Bullard for Innuendo Bingo and was delighted by the response. Football supporters regarded him as a cult figure, while Scott mainly knew him from I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
Jimmy said he had eaten heavily after leaving the jungle and put on about two stone. He arrived with nothing particular to promote and simply wanted the experience and more Twitter followers.
The greater challenge was language. Producers repeatedly reminded Jimmy that the programme was live and he could not swear, particularly once cold water began hitting him.
A clean game in every sense
The clips began with a footballer apparently going down on himself near the penalty area. Classic car programmes, breakfast television and a discussion of where somebody kept an award supplied further material.
Jimmy and Chris attacked the water enthusiastically. Match commentary made a suitable final round, allowing Jimmy to finish a football-heavy game without using a single banned word.
Scott was surprised by how much he liked him and immediately wanted another role for him, preferably something less risky than a live broadcast. Relationship transfer deadline reporting appeared ideal.
The museum of disappointing celebrity objects
After Rachel Stevens’s birthday Bingo, somebody found her roll-on deodorant in a Radio 1 toilet. Chris kept it and wondered whether objects left behind by famous guests might form a museum.
Listeners had plenty to contribute. The potential exhibits included Plan B’s guitarist’s sweaty towel, a One Direction water bottle which still contained water, a fake snowball thrown by Niall Horan, Sam Smith’s scrunched-up set list and a pair of James Bourne’s jeans.
The collection became stranger as its value became less obvious. A used deodorant and old chewing gum seemed more distinctive than ordinary signed merchandise, although cloning Rachel Stevens from the roll-on was judged scientifically unlikely.
Thursday’s booking problem
Scott had to match Chris’s successful guest later in the week. He booked Charlie King, believing he was still appearing in The Only Way Is Essex, then discovered he had already left.
The mistake did not make Charlie any less suitable for Bingo, but Chris enjoyed comparing the uncertain booking with the immediate success of Jimmy Bullard.
