16 December 2014: The X Factor voice turns Innuendo Bingo into an event

Peter Dickson orders the loudest curry

Peter Dickson’s voice was so recognisable that Scott remembered restaurant customers turning around when he ordered a curry after an earlier Radio 1 event. Before Innuendo Bingo, Peter recreated the experience by announcing dishes from a Cardiff menu as though they were X Factor finalists.

The game matched Chris against one of television’s most dramatic voices. Peter remained loud even with water in his mouth, while clips about Christmas decorations, sport, phones and historical toilets produced an unusually wet contest.

The sleeping plan finds the wrong helper

James had secured the perfect seat and pretended to sleep as his train reached the woman’s stop. She walked straight past him and left. James remained committed to the performance until the carriage was nearly empty.

The conductor then woke him, concerned that he had missed his stop. Instead of beginning a romance, James had engineered an awkward exchange with railway staff and only just got off in time.

Scott offered three replacement ideas. The most promising involved buying a cheap pay-as-you-go phone, dropping it near the woman and leaving the train. She might run after him, or James could call the handset later and begin a conversation when she answered.

James accepted the plan and bought the phone that afternoon. He now had three days to use it.

A final selection of facts

The day’s Real or No Real included Henry VIII’s “Great House of Easement”, Mozart completing the overture to Don Giovanni while recovering from the previous night, and members of the Queen’s household choosing Christmas gifts from a fixed-price catalogue.
