Mark Wahlberg talks Two Guns and Marky Mark
Mark Wahlberg arrived to discuss 2 Guns and his partnership with Denzel Washington. He said they had not really known each other before filming but quickly found the chemistry which drove the movie, while the action work remained carefully controlled until late in production, when actors jokingly became more expendable because the essential scenes were already complete.
Listeners were particularly interested in Wahlberg’s fitness. He explained that his routine changed completely from film to film, including eating an enormous number of meals each day to bulk up for Pain & Gain before reducing his weight again.
Scott inevitably returned to Wahlberg’s earlier career as Marky Mark. When Mark declined to rap over the beat provided in the studio, joking that the beat was not good enough, Scott remembered Radio 1 had access to the records themselves. Moments after the Hollywood star left, the programme was playing his early music and encouraging listeners to rediscover a career phase Mark had just described as less than a highlight.
Tara Reid explains the logic of Sharknado
With Sharknado due on UK television that night, Tara Reid joined by phone from America. She readily admitted that the actors had performed to almost nothing because the sharks were added later, which Scott thought only improved the film’s particular kind of charm.
Scott then pitched his own Tsunarmadillo idea, armed with Daniel Radcliffe’s earlier endorsement. Tara thought a tsunami full of armadillos sounded exactly as ridiculous as it needed to be. With Radcliffe jokingly offering finance and a Sharknado star now approving the concept, Scott’s imaginary disaster movie was beginning to acquire an improbable development team.
Challenge three: silence the coffee shop
For challenge three, Scott and Chris separately entered busy coffee shops and tried to recreate the movie moment when one shocking sentence makes every surrounding conversation stop.
Chris pretended to be on the phone and loudly demanded to know why somebody could not accept that he had three nipples. The room quietened and one person could be heard wondering whether it was a dare.
Scott waited for his moment and announced: “Well, that’s because I’m in love with your brother.” His café went noticeably quieter. Listener judge Beccy awarded the point to Scott, putting him 2-1 ahead.
Chris prepares to be an usher
Chris was becoming increasingly anxious about being an usher at his sister’s wedding. He did not know whether he needed a morning suit, a matching buttonhole, the seating plan, every guest’s name or even a dance with a bridesmaid.
Listeners with wedding experience piled in with responsibilities until the job sounded less like helping at the door and more like running the entire event. Scott was delighted by each new duty, while Chris slowly realised the rehearsal later in the week might be essential.
