Scott finally reaches the Bedroom DJ party
Scott left Radio 1’s office party early enough to make Phil and Alice’s late-night broadcast, breaking his run of two missed appearances. He, Chris and Greg delivered their smooth “Songs to Lie Down To” set, although excitement from the earlier event made them rather louder than the music required.
At one point Alice tried to introduce Dan Croll while Scott and Chris heckled from nearby. Chris could be heard telling Scott to stop, before the pair remembered that they were supposed to be helping present the programme rather than disrupting it.
Sinitta and the cardboard leaves
Sinitta arrived for Innuendo Bingo looking immaculate, so the show attempted to level the field by dressing Chris in a recreation of her famous X Factor leaf outfit. Two enormous cardboard leaves were held in place with string. Sinitta removed her black top and played in a bright-pink sports bra, leaving both participants unusually exposed to the cold water.
The clips began with a truck driver due to drop his load at 5pm. Sunday Brunch warned that something too stiff would become dry and useless, Sara Cox discussed a heavy plughole and Gregg Wallace wanted to know whether it was necessary to bash something up. Countryfile supplied a “stunning movement”, while Julia Bradbury found it difficult not to follow through.
Golf advice recommended soaking balls in hot water, Louis Walsh’s boys waited nervously backstage and Alan Titchmarsh promised to return with three balls. Further appearances came from Rylan taking a tackle, Michael Portillo clutching his Bradshaw’s and a Radio 4 explorer discovering that going down on a donkey was unsafe.
Sinitta threw herself into the game, sometimes spraying before she had fully understood a clip. The paper leaves gradually loosened as Chris became soaked, creating an unfortunate photograph that he desperately wanted removed from Radio 1’s social accounts.
Will Ferrell is confirmed
Immediately after the game, Scott announced the biggest Innuendo Bingo booking yet. Will Ferrell would play at 1.45pm the following Tuesday while promoting Anchorman 2.
The confirmation eclipsed even Gerard Butler in Scott’s ranking of guests. Listeners were told to put the time in their calendars, watch live if possible and expect the full video afterwards. Chris could barely believe that the small feature built around television clips and cups of water had reached Ron Burgundy.
Kristen Wiig returns
Kristen Wiig came back to Radio 1 to discuss The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. She described Cheryl as somebody dissatisfied with her life who helps Walter begin his journey, and spoke about working with Ben Stiller, Steve Carell and the cast of Anchorman 2.
Wiig remembered starting as an extra, including appearing as an almost invisible woman on a beach and walking behind distorted glass in Judging Amy. She had also waited tables at Universal Studios, taken improv classes and appeared in commercials before Saturday Night Live changed her career.
Chris then read his review of Walter Mitty directly to her. He described it as a story about persistence and a man trying to “get off with” a woman, compared it inexplicably with Gladiator and called it a rare film safe to watch with parents. His phrase about an opportunity for a “reach-around” required immediate clarification. Despite all that, Wiig accepted his four-Starks-out-of-five score with good humour.
