Scott gets dropped off by his dad
Scott arrived at Radio 1 with the slightly schoolboy experience of being dropped at work by his dad. The illusion was completed when a stray piece of hair was sticking up and his dad wet a finger to press it back into place before Scott got out of the car.
Chris’s family reunion was culinary rather than transport-related. After days of eating lasagne from the café at the centre of the “Matt” mystery, he visited his parents and discovered his mum had lovingly made his favourite meal: more lasagne. He ate it, but admitted he was approaching lasagne overload.
Neville Longbottom grows up
Thursday’s Innuendo Bingo guest was Matthew Lewis, best known as Neville Longbottom from the Harry Potter films. Scott reminded Chris of the time he had cheerfully told Daniel Radcliffe that he had never seen a Harry Potter film. Chris saw nothing wrong with the honesty then and had not changed his mind.
Lewis needed no explanation of the feature. He was already a fan, had watched the clips and had sensibly brought a change of shirt. He also talked about his new film The Rise, a heist story about four northern friends attempting to get even with a gangster and fund a new life.
The old childhood picture Radio 1 initially used caused some amusement because Lewis looked very different now. Listeners were quick to tell Scott that adult Neville Longbottom had become something of an internet crush.
One of Bingo’s least controllable guests
Lewis’s problem was not understanding Innuendo Bingo, it was finding almost everything funny. Early football commentary about Robin van Persie having a defender “up his backside” set the tone and he struggled to recover.
Further clips involved BBC weather, Nottingham’s accidental invitation to a “mass debate”, Marseille defender Rod Fanni, Radio 4 and BBC London. Sometimes Lewis started laughing before the clip had even reached its innuendo, which in turn made Chris laugh and caused water to go everywhere.
The visual was exactly what fans had hoped for. Lewis had arrived already loving the feature and left having demonstrated why playing it was considerably harder than watching it online.
Greg James continues a bad Real or No Real week
Greg James joined later for Real or No Real. Among the questions was a fabricated story about Dizzee Rascal helping to dig up a Blue Peter time capsule as a schoolboy, and another about John Newman basing his stage clothing on an old waiter’s uniform.
The real surprise was a Kings of Leon story about Caleb Followill selling his Nashville home because fan mail had become unmanageable. Greg’s form across the week was less impressive, something Scott made sure he knew.
The much bigger online result arrived quickly: the Matthew Lewis Bingo video was already on its way to becoming one of the week’s biggest pieces of Radio 1 content.
