27 August 2013: Rhianna Dhillon gets drenched and Lindsey Russell joins Blue Peter

Rhianna from films returns to Bingo

After the long weekend, Rhianna Dhillon returned to the feature Scott still affectionately called “Rhianna off films”. She had one practical request: could somebody provide enough protection that her underwear stayed dry?

The studio improvised with spare sports clothing and plastic, but Innuendo Bingo did what it always did. Radio 4 offered a professor with a “magnificent instrument”, Test Match Special returned after Jonathan Agnew’s triumph, local radio supplied an improbable rural tradition called goat flanging, and athletics commentary asked how difficult things became “when they’re inside you”.

By the end Rhianna was soaked. A final Fearne Cotton clip about being “almost tempted to enter myself” gave Chris one more chance to spray her before Scott called time. Her attempt to keep one part of her outfit dry had not survived contact with the game.

Lindsey Russell becomes the new face of Blue Peter

Lindsey Russell joined Scott after winning the competition to become a new Blue Peter presenter. Her first live programme was still ahead of her, and Scott immediately began telling the least reassuring story possible: his own attempt to co-present the programme.

Scott had been given a classic Blue Peter make, constructing a football pitch from guacamole, carrot sticks and cheese string. He remembered it as one of the most stressful television jobs he had ever done, particularly trying to keep the halfway line and goals intact while presenting live.

Lindsey was about to face her own first make, a memory board, and admitted Scott’s story had not reduced the nerves. They also discussed badges. Scott had somehow accumulated two ordinary Blue Peter badges and wanted to know whether he was officially allowed to keep both.

Pointless, Miley and Real or No Real

Scott was pleased with his and Matt Edmondson’s recent appearance on Pointless, mainly because he had managed to answer a football question correctly. The programme also inevitably discussed Miley Cyrus’s VMA performance, which had become impossible to escape online.

Alan Dedicoat joined Real or No Real, where facts ranged from reserved fictional television phone numbers to monkeys using public transport. Charlie Sloth’s ongoing “fatist” argument managed to intrude again despite Charlie not even being the scheduled guest, proving that some show jokes required very little encouragement to return.
