27 July 2012: Is Scott lighting the Olympic flame?

Is Scott lighting the Olympic flame?

Listener India said one of her relatives had named Mount Everest after his colleague, surveyor George Everest. Scott and Chris wondered whether there were any unnamed landmarks left and quickly rejected the prospect of climbing “Mount Chris”. The team also revisited a photograph from the previous year’s Edinburgh show in which Chris and Dappy had swapped clothes, prompting Chris to remind Dappy that one of his shirts had still not been returned.

Chris became convinced that Scott had secretly been chosen to light the Olympic flame at that evening’s opening ceremony. His evidence included Scott not previously carrying the torch, being unavailable that night, missing the National Lottery programme and a supposed rumour heard elsewhere at Radio 1. Scott repeatedly denied the claim and pointed out that he intended to watch the ceremony at his mother’s house.

Beccy strengthened the conspiracy by telephoning Scott while pretending to be Lord Coe on a secure line. She asked him to confirm the lighting arrangements, bring matches in case the flame failed and discuss the previous night’s rehearsal. Scott recognised the trick but eventually stated that it was him simply to end the call, which Chris treated as the confession he had been seeking.

Planning for the Fun and Filth Cabaret turned to finding Chris a purpose in Edinburgh. He proposed breaking a different world record on each of the four nights, with listeners suggesting giant food challenges and a repeat of his painful experience eating extremely hot chillies. Katie then auditioned from a pub toilet by performing the Crazy Frog tune in the voice of Dido, an act so strange that Scott immediately passed it to talent scouts Dan and Phil.

Scott revealed a new enthusiasm for miniature toiletries after repeatedly travelling through airports, a reversal of his previous obsession with unusually large products. The team played another celebrity-autobiography edition of Oh, What’s Occurring?, identifying books by Len Goodman, Shania Twain, Ronan Keating, Jeremy Vine, Gary Barlow and Joe McElderry. The show ended with everyone preparing to watch the Olympic opening ceremony, despite Chris maintaining that Scott would be appearing in it.
