Scott discovers Gok Wan’s endless love of woks
Scott and Chris began with the aftermath of Rihanna’s Innuendo Bingo appearance, which Chris reluctantly accepted had been a good feature even though he had not been involved. The show reminded listeners that anyone whose clip made it into the game earned 250 Danny Howard points, a reward that continued to sound more official each time it was mentioned.
The real obsession was Gok Wan’s cookery programme. Chris had watched it and noticed that Gok repeatedly referred to his wok, prompting Scott to make a game out of how many times the word appeared. The answer was high enough to become funny in itself, and the programme kept returning to short clips and increasingly needless repetitions of “wok”.
Eurovision was still a live subject after Scott’s return. Scott and Chris discussed the Swedish spokesperson whose memorable delivery of the jury result turned out to be a comic character, rather than her normal broadcasting persona. Chris was delighted that Sweden could joke about the contest and still win it, and suggested Britain might need to take a similarly playful approach.
The show also followed Harry Styles’ appearance on Grimmy’s Call or Delete. Scott and Chris tried to estimate how long Harry had stayed on the phone during the feature, then enjoyed the idea that even a simple game could become a way of examining someone else’s contacts and social awkwardness.
It was a loose, warm-weather edition built from small things the team had become disproportionately invested in, particularly a television chef’s kitchen equipment. By the end, Gok’s wok had become the day’s dominant subject, a minor observation expanded into the sort of running gag the show handled best.
