Conor Maynard meets Chris and his heart-scan photo
Chris’s Tap End autobiography returned to his university years and a trip to Leeds for Chinese Dave’s birthday. The group attempted the Otley Run in beachwear despite freezing rain, initially looked ridiculous in a pub where nobody else was dressed up, and gradually found their night improve with the help of a silent stranger who seemed able to answer every question on an Itbox.
The stranger in green became an accidental mascot, travelling between bars with the group and winning them attention through his quiz-machine expertise. By the end of the evening, Chris had lost his snorkel, someone had written on his arm and the group were cooking potato waffles after a night that had begun as a fancy-dress disaster.
Conor Maynard then visited the studio as Can’t Say No was gaining momentum. He talked about starting his first tour, playing a hometown show in Brighton and facing the particular pressure of an all-girls school appearance later that day. Chris immediately treated this as the sort of career Conor had been handed specifically to make him jealous.
The conversation also returned to a Newsbeat story encouraging young people and sports participants to get their hearts checked. Chris had had his own scan and was embarrassed that the article used a photograph of him covered in gel, looking rather exposed and unhappy. Conor was sympathetic, although the team mostly enjoyed imagining the scan image as Chris’s new profile picture.
The show closed one of its games with an episode of Australian Junior MasterChef repeatedly saying “Pavlova”, producing a total of 46 mentions. It was another neatly mixed episode: a new pop guest, one of Chris’s most visual university stories and a health message that the team could not resist making awkward for him.
