29 August 2011: Unlucky Gary’s Beyoncé theory is proved right

Unlucky Gary’s Beyoncé theory is proved right

On the Bank Holiday, Scott returned to the night he and Unlucky Gary had made it into Beyoncé’s post-Glastonbury party. Gary had tried to make sure Beyoncé had a drink, only for Scott to stop him because, as he put it, she was Beyoncé and did not need help being looked after.

With Beyoncé’s pregnancy now public, the show revisited the fact that she had declined the drink. Gary’s speculative explanation had turned out to be correct, giving the usually unlucky listener a rare chance to claim a celebrity scoop rather than another mishap.

Gary still had plenty of bad luck to report, including a failed bank card, a quad-bike ditch incident and spilling Coke over his boss. Scott enjoyed the contrast between his one moment of accidental insight and the familiar trail of minor disasters around it.

The white dog was also back on the agenda. Scott explained that his flatmate had not told him the dog would be staying, then confessed that red wine had ended up on its fur. The team established that the dog was a Westie and began considering shampoo, grooming and increasingly implausible ways of hiding the stain before its owner returned.

Scott rounded off the show by talking up his appearance on Shooting Stars and his new love of Epic Win. The programme’s strange challenges felt tailor-made for the show, and Scott was already convinced that he could identify meat with his feet, whether or not anyone else trusted him to try.
