Scott misnames The Wombats’ Murph
Scott was unsettled by a large plant appearing beside him in the studio on a bright red stool. Beccy thought it was simply a peace lily; Scott preferred the theory that it was a newspaper bugging device, installed to capture Radio 1 gossip. The plant was eventually wheeled into Westwood’s studio, to Scott’s relief.
The main embarrassment came from a leaving party for Casualty. Scott had shared a cab with The Wombats’ Murph, but had been convinced his name was Marv. He had used it repeatedly throughout the evening, including while trying to hurry him into the taxi.
Greg James knew Scott had the name wrong but let the mistake continue until the end of the journey. Scott apologised, then considered the only practical response might be to keep calling him Marv until Murph accepted it, perhaps helped by a strategically altered Wikipedia entry.
Chris was sympathetic, having let the owner of a newsagent call him Michael for years. He was now so far into the error that he checked whether the man’s wife was present before entering, because she knew his real name. Callers added their own collection of accidental aliases, from Dave in a chip shop to Paul in a pub.
Later, Scott mined the notes on his phone for abandoned ideas, including “pizza buffet challenge”, “man points” and a mysterious reference to “Milan peach Angela”. He also announced that the team had been asked to make a Radio 1 documentary about Lady Gaga, immediately reviving the old promise Scott believed she had made to enter Eurovision for Moldova.
