Mark Goodier takes over
Scott looked ahead to Mark Goodier taking over Pick of the Pops on Saturday afternoons.
The familiar chart-countdown format would remain, with Mark guiding listeners through two historic charts and the records they had originally bought.
Scott celebrated the appointment with the traditional “Greetings, Pop Pickers” introduction and discussed the mixture of major classics and occasional chart curiosities the programme inevitably uncovered.
Election-night preparations
With the general election taking place the following day, listeners explained how they planned to follow the results.
Some intended to stay awake through the night despite having early shifts.
Others had arranged postal votes before going abroad or planned to listen from overseas.
Scott noted that he would not be presenting the following afternoon for reasons connected with the election coverage.
The Birthday Game: James
James from Mansfield turned 50 and wanted 1990s dance music.
His first spin was the Equals’ original version of Baby Come Back, number one in 1968.
James liked it but chose to continue.
The second was the Real Thing’s You to Me Are Everything, number one in 1976.
He decided it was too good to risk and stopped.
His unused third option was Ne-Yo’s Closer.
James remained satisfied that the Real Thing was the strongest choice.
Handover
Scott handed over after wishing listeners a good election day and previewing Mark Goodier’s new Saturday role.
