16 April 2024: Perrie, the la-la room and Scott’s Hole in the Wall rematch

Hole in the Wall returns to haunt Scott

Reports suggested Hole in the Wall could be revived, forcing Scott to revisit his appearance on the original programme.

Archive commentary described his attempt to adopt a seated position before the moving wall pushed him into the water.

Scott admitted that the silver Lycra, his poor performance and the television commentary had embarrassed him for 15 years.

He then decided to embrace the humiliation and offered to appear in a reboot or rematch.

Scott also revealed that he had been badly hungover during the original recording after forgetting the programme was being filmed the following morning.

The Birthday Game: Adam

Adam from Bradford turned 39 and was gradually renovating a cottage during evenings and weekends.

He spent the birthday waiting for a tumble dryer with an extremely broad delivery window.

Adam liked pop-punk, including Blink-182, Sum 41 and Alkaline Trio.

His first spin was Doris Day’s Secret Love from Calamity Jane. His wife loved Doris Day, but Adam wanted something more modern and energetic.

The second was Art Garfunkel’s Bright Eyes from Watership Down. Adam found it too sad and gambled again.

His compulsory final song was the Bluebells’ Young at Heart, which returned to number one in 1993 after being used in a car advert.

Adam regarded it as easily the best of the three and accepted Scott’s signed card.

A technical problem meant listeners briefly heard the Bangles’ Eternal Flame where Bright Eyes should have played, creating widespread confusion and undermining the programme’s claim to be the world’s second-least distracting radio show.

Perrie goes solo

Perrie joined Scott after releasing Forget About Us, her first solo single following Little Mix.

She described feeling excited, frightened and intimidated by releasing music without the other members beside her.

The worst period was waiting for a finished song to become public and not knowing how people would react.

Perrie said she would rather receive a clear response, positive or negative, than remain trapped in the fear of the unknown.

Axel and the la-la room

Perrie’s two-year-old son Axel had already heard the completed album.

He knew the words to songs, had clear favourites and frequently rejected slower tracks in favour of records he could dance to.

Axel called Perrie’s home studio the “la-la room”.

The family also enthusiastically sang the theme to Spidey and His Amazing Friends, which Perrie demonstrated for Scott.

Steve Perry and wedding planning

Perrie confirmed that she was named after Journey singer Steve Perry.

Her parents had expected a boy and loved Journey enough to choose Perry as the name.

She disliked its unusualness while growing up but now valued having a distinctive name and used simply “Perrie” for her solo career.

Scott and Perrie compared wedding planning.

Scott recommended employing a wedding planner and warned that creating the guest list inevitably left some people disappointed.

Perrie admitted that her fiancé Alex was much more decisive about invitations, while she worried about plus-ones and upsetting people.

Handover

Scott handed over after playing Forget About Us and welcoming Perrie to her solo era.
