Kate’s Madagascar adventure
Kate from Manchester turned 39 and was preparing for a trip to Madagascar.
She wanted to see ring-tailed, black-and-white ruffed and sportive lemurs, along with the island’s beaches and distinctive baobab trees.
Kate had watched a BBC nature programme showing lemurs sunbathing on rocks and decided they represented her spirit animal.
She also hoped the airline would show the film Madagascar during the journey, remembering a previous flight to Brazil where everybody watched Rio on one shared screen.
The Birthday Game: Kate
Kate’s father had made her a CD for her 21st birthday containing every number-one single from her first 20 birthdays.
She therefore knew some of the possible songs in advance and particularly hoped to avoid Chesney Hawkes and Emma Bunton.
Her first spin was Frank and Nancy Sinatra’s Somethin’ Stupid. Kate respected its status but wanted something with more energy.
The second was the Bangles’ Eternal Flame. She again rejected a classic because it was too slow for the mood she wanted.
Her compulsory final song was Sigma’s Nobody to Love, number one in 2014.
Kate was delighted that the third spin delivered the high-energy record she had been waiting for.
She accepted Scott’s signed birthday card but jokingly declined to say “love you” because they had only just met.
The ultimate ABBA vote
Scott reminded listeners that time was running out to choose Radio 2’s ultimate ABBA song.
Voters could spread five votes among several tracks or place all five behind one favourite.
Handover
Scott handed over after Kate’s successful third-spin gamble and more ABBA voting.
