12 February 2024: Coronation Street makes room for Scott and Mike gets Sinéad O’Connor

Scott Mills’ Big Ones reaches Coronation Street

Gillian from the Coronation Street make-up department called with an update on Rita’s Kabin.

Scott had spent months monitoring the CDs and DVDs displayed on the shop’s rack.

The team had now added his 2010 dance compilation Scott Mills’ Big Ones.

It appeared beside albums by Shania Twain, Gloria Estefan and Take That and was due to feature in that evening’s episode.

Scott was delighted that somebody on the production team had sourced a copy, which could still be bought online for less than £2.

Gillian repeated her invitation for Scott to visit the cobbles and potentially reorganise the rack himself.

The Birthday Game: Mike

Mike from Littleborough near Manchester turned 50.

His daughters Tilly and Martha regularly heard the programme while being collected from school by their grandmother.

Mike disliked having a birthday close to Valentine’s Day because restaurants were more expensive and friends were often occupied with their partners.

He postponed his main celebration until March, when he planned an 1980s fancy-dress party dressed as Don Johnson from Miami Vice.

His first spin was Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne with Rather Be. Mike rejected it.

The second was ABBA’s Take a Chance on Me. He rejected that too.

Mike said his worst possible third result would be a comedy record.

His compulsory song was Sinéad O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U.

Mike judged it the best of the three and accepted it.

Scott also recorded a message praising the balloon arch planned for Mike’s party.

The Music Police assemble

Scott opened a new investigation after the previous week’s complicated remix case.

Listeners were asked to study another brief clue and submit possible songs.

Valentine’s birthday problems

Mike’s story prompted listeners to discuss birthdays near Valentine’s Day and the practical difficulty of arranging meals or parties during the same period.

Handover

Scott handed over after encouraging viewers to look for his CD during that evening’s Coronation Street.
