Battered sprouts become a hit
Michael from the Almighty Cod in Hartlepool called after Scott mentioned the shop’s battered Brussels sprouts.
The sprouts were served with homemade cheese sauce and had sold out repeatedly.
After Radio 2 discussed them, customers began saying they had heard about the dish on air and the shop experienced another surge in demand.
Michael said they might remain on the menu beyond Christmas if the popularity continued.
EastEnders Christmas playlists
Scott reacted to BBC Sounds releasing playlists selected in character by the six women at the centre of EastEnders’ Christmas murder mystery.
Stacey Slater offered her “Baps and Bangers”, while Denise Fox revealed herself as an old raver by choosing Faithless’ Insomnia.
Scott particularly enjoyed Sharon Watts introducing Cilla Black.
The playlists helped build anticipation for the Christmas Day revelation about the man lying on the floor of the Queen Vic.
The Birthday Game
The contestant wanted upbeat pop and accepted Olly Murs’ Dance with Me Tonight on the opening spin.
Scott noted that two successive contestants had now stopped after their first song, something that rarely happened.
The unused alternatives were René and Renato’s Save Your Love and a heavily played Christmas favourite.
The contestant remained satisfied with the Essex connection and Olly Murs choice.
David Guetta reviews Christmas
David Guetta joined Scott to hear classic British Christmas records that had not achieved the same status in France.
Scott tested his reaction to the loud, distinctive seasonal sound associated with records including Slade.
David approached the records as a producer as well as a listener, commenting on their energy, melodies and ability to create an immediate festive atmosphere.
The feature explored how songs regarded as unavoidable British Christmas institutions could remain comparatively unfamiliar elsewhere in Europe.
