Day two begins
Vernon Kay continued his ultra-ultramarathon challenge for BBC Children in Need.
The route took him out of Matlock towards Rowsley, using the old railway track near Darley Dale station rather than the main road.
Listeners waited along the route and sent messages of support and donations.
St Mary’s, Vernon’s former primary school in Horwich, planned to run a mile each day in solidarity with him.
Keeping Vernon moving
Scott played music selected to help Vernon’s pace and repeatedly checked his progress with the support team.
Messages came from people who had run short sections alongside him, donated money or planned to meet him later in the route.
Reverend Kate Bottley waited in Rowsley and tried to keep the gathering crowd entertained while being told Vernon was about a mile away.
The tension increased as supporters repeatedly asked whether he had nearly arrived.

Kate said hearing the step-by-step instructions had prompted her to donate from her car.
Voice notes praised Vernon’s determination and the way Radio 2 listeners were gathering around the challenge.
The Birthday Game: Catherine
Catherine from Kent turned 45 and was spending the day with her best friend Shaz.
Shaz had bought tickets for a mystery evening out but had refused to reveal the destination.
Catherine shared her birthday with ABBA’s Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Petula Clark, Andrew Castle and Alexander O’Neal.
Her first spin was the Boomtown Rats’ Rat Trap, the song that ended Summer Nights’ seven-week run at number one.
Because Grease was Catherine’s favourite film, she rejected it immediately.
The second was the Black Eyed Peas’ Meet Me Halfway, number one in 2009.
Catherine chose to gamble again.
Her compulsory final song was Vic Reeves and the Wonder Stuff’s Dizzy, number one in 1991.
She remembered the surreal video featuring washing machines and accepted the upbeat result.
Handover
The programme remained focused on Vernon’s progress and Children in Need rather than a conventional final handover.
